I wouldn't say cold...upper 60's.

As long as you, yours and your kitten stay dry and safe (and the house stays standing),....

Thank God my son found our little stray kitten that has adopted us and brought her in the garage. She looked like a drowned rat.
God bless your son for not forgetting a little helpless cat at such a time. Well-raised boy there.

Raleigh areas are losing power on and off.
To: blam
I'm not sure about that; Constitution Day down in Rocky Mount left work a little bit ago to go to his parents' house; he's has no access there.

Do we have any FReepers who are cut-off because of power outages? I don't know, blam. Count the FReepers who didn't answer you...
To: EternalVigilance
Well, I should have said cold for this time of year.
I just think it's odd that it's so cool before the storm. Usually you can "smell" the tropics!

LOL!!!!
I just was IMing with a friend in KC - I finally told him good bye as I was a bit too busy to keep being interupted by him telling me things I knew yesterday.
He just couldn't seem to get it through his head I didn't need "moral support" from someone who can not comprehend the idea of living on the coast........
He has no concept of the "FReeper Family."

I think you are right about SOP for hospitals. But, that leaves my mother home all alone. My brother lives over near Craddock High School and his area was designated for evacuation also. If she needed help, I don't think he could get to her.
There are a couple of big, old oak trees right up near the house and I am worried that one of them might come down. When we moved in there in 1960, they were rather small at the time, about 9 inches across. They are really huge now after 40 years of growth. Hopefully, neither of them has any weakened brittle branches that will come off onto the house.

Power here blinking off and on.

I hadn't thought about that but you're right. It been very "fallish" all week. Nice temps, low humidity, nice blue skies. Even up until yesterday afternoon.

people in texas and oklahoma call a storm with 85kt winds a spring shower...!! There are undoubtedly people losing their homes, property and even lives as we type.
But, hey, you just keep doing your happy dance, okay?
To: Howlin
What is it about guys that they won't CALL?????????? It's a genetic thing, and there's nothing you can do about it. Sorry!
To: Interesting Times
oh the drama...
actually no....85kt winds wont cause structural damage...and noone is losing their lives right now.
a spring shower i tell you.

I just think it's odd that it's so cool before the storm. Usually you can "smell" the tropics! I don't know what to expect. I'm a total newbie at this. Now, if we were out in tornado country, I could be of some use. ;-)

The major problem here in C-ville will be, as always, flooding, downed trees and no power.
Many housing developments over the last decade have gone up in rural portions of the county. Consequently, roads and power lines to these areas were put in that did not take into consideration heavy rains or snows. Rural roads get flooded and power lines come down around here extremely easily due to falling tree limbs. I heard the power company has brought in "loaned" personnel from other states to take care of 'anticipated' outages.
To: ShakeNJake
Oh dear. No wonder you're worried. Are there neighbors who can help? Mr. iceskater was going to check on our neighbor today and make sure she's ok. She also lives alone and we often help her out with yard stuff. I hope your mom has someone like that close by.
To: Jonah Hex
Hope you either have a UPS (surge protector isn't good enough) or a generator.
Stay safe.
