I just got off the phone with my dad in Jacksonville. He was reading the report off of the local forecast from TWC--he said there were 58mph gusts at the moment, and they can expect winds from 50-70mph with gusts up to 80mph. Their power is still on. Just by looking outside their house, he said the winds are coming in gusts at about 40-50mph, and some limbs have blown off trees.
He talked to my aunt in Atlanic (not Atlantic Beach) and they lost power at 4:45am (but she has a generator) and all around her area is out of power.
For anyone who doesn't know where Atlantic is, look on a map of NC and find Cedar Island. Atlantic is on the mainland right next to it.

It looks like "poor" Jim Cantori won't be getting the eye, though he'll get a faceful of eyewall.

Dominion Power just reported 207,000 customers in SE Virginia and NE Carolina without power" My sister's ex-husband, who works for Georgia Power, left this morning from Georgia...headed that way to help. It'll probably be days before he is back.

Check out the Newport radar link and you will see that the rain is about to slow down in Raleigh for a while.

Jim is kind of line Christine Amanpour; if you see her in your country, a war is gonna break out; if you see Jim, you can bet the storm isn't going there!

Our Richmond radio said that 200,000+ customers without power in Va. 700,000 lost power during Hurricane Floyd. They seem to think that's a good gauge of what to expect today. They were interviewing a woman from Va. Dominion Power. She had no idea how long the "borrowed" folks will be here.

Is the one you labeled Morehead at Newport? I can barely SEE Raleigh on that one!

I just hope the winds don't do anything like what's happening on Radio Island.

Short discussion-
Hurricane Isabel Discussion Number 50
Statement as of 11:00 am EDT on September 18, 2003
the large eyewall of Isabel is coming ashore along the North
Carolina Outer Banks. Although aircraft reconnaissance reports
flight-level winds of 111 kt...surface winds are estimated to be
substatially lower...about 85 kt. Little change in strength is
expected prior to the center making landfall. Although Isabel will
weaken after landfall...the strong winds aloft will be felt in the
form of hurricane force wind gusts well inland over the elevated
terrain of northern Virginia and western Maryland...as well as on
high rise buildings and other structures in major metropolitan
areas near and especially east of the path of Isabel.
There has been little change to the forecast track. Isabel is
expected to become extratropical within 36 hours and be absorbed
after 48 hours.

Winds are 20 mph sustained with 30 mph gusts right now here in Richmond. The rain is getting worse. I'm thinking it's getting to be time to get the heck out of Dodge and head on home.

Is the pier supposed to be crooked like that? (about a third of the way down from the top of the picture, it looks like it's bent.)
