April 27, 2003: While Iraq's use of GPS jammers did not succeed in the recent war (the jammers were quickly located and bombed), three years earlier, one of Iraq's allies did make successful use of GPS jamming against U.S. and British troops. In the Summer of 2000, American, British and French tanks were competing for a $1.4 billion contract to equip the Greek army. For some reason, the GPS gear in the American and British tanks never seemed to work correctly during the tests. It was later discovered that the French had brought a small GPS jammer to the tank evaluation area and rigged it so a French officer could turn the jammer on and off remotely whenever the American or British tanks were moving about. Eventually, Greece selected German tanks for its army.

Maybe we need to invent a new type of 'GPS Jammer' for the French, and we get to decide exactly WHERE the GPS' get jammed ;0)

I din't know about your idea..........they'd probably like it!

OK, let me get this straight. The Brits, Americans, and Frogs are competing for a contract. The Frogs sabotage the Americans and Brits.
The Greeks don't buy from the Americans and Brits, because of the problems caused by the sabotage. Instead, they buy from the Germans.
So the Frogs still lost?

I wouldn't count on the Frogs losing. They probably got a kickback from their German buddies.

They rigged it so their German friends would win the contract.

The Greeks are lucky they didn't buy tanks that can be stopped so easily.

1. All's fair in love and war; one can reasonably expect enemies to use GPS jammers on the battlefield just as well as competitors would during a competition.
2. Great. Now the Greeks have tanks made by the French, instead of by the Americans. The free market has spoken! Next time Greece needs to use some of its tanks in battle, let's all rest comfortably, along with the Greek soldiers, knowing that they have selected France as their supplier - complete with advanced technical knowhow and proven battle experience and success! LOL!

The Greeks are lucky they didn't buy tanks that can be stopped so easily. I think they declined because they didn't need tanks with backup lights, and five gears for reverse.

I would hope that that matters to the Greeks.
Do they really want equipment that needs to cheat to be "sold"?
