Delegate Dirty Tricks
September 17, 2003 | Vanity

Posted on 09/17/2003 10:02:45 AM PDT by Peach

Considering that impeached former president Clinton is going to be a delegate in the '04 presidential election primary, I have a question regarding delegate responsibilities.

Wasn't there a delegate in the '00 presidential primary who had pledged to his state to support Bush who switched his vote at the last minute?

Is there a Freeper who remembers this incident?

This is the stuff Clinton will pull at the primary, I'm afraid.

You're kinda crossing up events here.

You vote for delegates to a convention in the primary.

Wasn't there a delegate in the '00 presidential primary who had pledged to his state to support Bush who switched his vote at the last minute? Is there a Freeper who remembers this incident?

In addition to the elected delegates, there are many delegates who are named by party leaders as well. Clinton would probably be one of those delegates.

You may be thinking of the one Gore elector in the '00 electoral college who didn't vote for Gore (I can't remember if he abstained or voted for Bush or what).

from this source

One "faithless elector" surfaced, but instead of damaging Bush's margin of victory, a District of Columbia Democrat left her Gore ballot blank. Barbara Lett-Simmons said it was a protest about the district's lack of representation in Congress.

Ah yes, she protested DC's lack of representation in Congress by reducing its representation in the Electoral College.
