If someone named me in an assault I'd name them in a heartbeat.

If the man's name is disclosed, the woman's should be also. If the name of the accuser is withheld, the name of the defendant should be withheld also. This is a no-brainer.

I agree. With bogus rape charges running around 40%, there's a good chance that the victim is the accused. A rape charge is a stain that never leaves regardless of guilt.

This woman has already received death threats, one man was already arrested. Now thanks to a Kobot or moron in the courthouse, her home address is public knowledge. This is not an ordinary case, there are sick sycophantic Kobe fans who will use that info to threaten and perhaps murder her.

I heard about the victim's name appearing on the Eagle County's website this morning on Fox & Friends. They reported that her name was first noticed and reported by the folks at thesmokinggun.com. The guys at the gun sure are on top of things on the www.

Ah.....the 40% number is not a statistic. It was based on a small segment of data in a midwest town from 78-84. There are no statistics on "false rape" as best I can tell.

According to a study conducted by Eugene Kanin (search) of Purdue University, the correct figure may rise to the 40 percent range. Kanin examined 109 rape complaints registered in a Midwestern city from 1978 to 1987. Of these, 45 were ultimately classified by the police as "false." Also based on police records, Kanin determined that 50 percent of the rapes reported at two major universities were "false."

Some universities have "hardship" exemptions for exams.

The name of the accuser is known by who is supposed to know it - the accused. There is no legal or constitutional provision that says me, you or a dog named Blue should know.

Its also apples and oranges to compare incidents of false reports of rapes on college campuses to those in the general population.

I know of two "false charges" here last year. In both cases, the women could not name an attacker and it was obvious they weren't telling the truth.

Most "false charges" don't get as far as the Bryant case. That's why I think it is real.

That's part of the reason why I too tend to (unfortunately) believe its real.

In that case, her identity should not have been disclosed--but his should not have been disclosed either.

Fine. But I repeat: If the identity of the accuser is withheld, the identity of the accused should be also. If the identity of the accused is disclosed, the identity of the accuser should be also. It's that simple.

What is this big deal with YOU having to know who the accuser is? The court knows, Bryant(the accused) knows and the community knows. Why do YOU, or anyone else across this country just have to know?
