Analysis: Schwarzenegger Increasingly Seen by GOP as Party's Best Bet

LOS ANGELES -- It was only last year that many state Republican Party activists were opting to back newcomer Bill Simon over former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan.

Though Riordan was widely considered the more electable of the two, he had consorted politically with Democrats for years, and Simon sided with the party's conservative activists on social issues. Their pick won the nomination only to lose the general election to Gov. Gray Davis.

"They're star-struck," complained Danney Ball, a candidate for U.S. Senate who enviously wondered how much money Schwarzenegger's campaign must have spent on the bleachers, press risers and crowd control measures for the rally.

Dana Rohrabacher told Sean Hannity Tom is a "wonk" and a "nerd".

Rich Galen told Fox three of four delegates he encountered said, "Tom's a nice guy but he can't win."

California's future is at stake--but so is America's. Hitlery das Butch von Buchenvald will be watching the recall surrounded by winged monkeys in a storm-struck castle.

It's nice that Tom is such a barnacle but it's moot after the Titanic settles to the bottom.

This is why I'm speculating that the clique that is so adamant, is not amoung the 'staunchest social conservatives'. They are *%'er's.

That makes two of us with the same thought! Only thing that makes any sense since they are out of touch with the elected conservative Republicans in CA that want to WIN!!!!!!

What's going on? The payoff, the backroom deals, the political insider trading. Nah, it doesn't take rocket science. Good thing Arnie doesn't really need any payoffs. Maybe he can go in there and clean house. Kick ass and take names. Start the swell that we need to take it back!

A friend of mine told me that today, on Sean Hannity's radio show, Bruce Jenner called in, quite unexpectedly. He called in to say how much he respects Arnold, what a good man he is, and yes, that he SHOULD be California's governor. He'll be on Sean's T.V. show later this week.

Besides Jenner, people such as Sean, Ann Coulter, and most of Cal.'s GOP elected officials, just about EVERY "righty" pundit if FOR Arnold and against McC's staying in the race. Fred Barnes is especially anti-Tom! People on the right, who FReepers have always been crazy about, are for Arnold. Now, some of those same people, are rabidly foaming at the mouth, calling anyone and everyone seeing that Arnold is the ONLY way to get a GOPer installed in the governor's seat in California, RINOs and worse. The truth of the matter is, that they (the rabid McC supporters) are the CRAZIES/DOG IN THE MANGER spoilers.

I also think that it's very naive to think that it's naive to think that a win here will make the problems of the CAGOP go away. The problems run deeper than that. Whatever happens in this election, the CAGOP needs a complete change.

The truth of the matter is they have principles and fundamental beliefs and believe that elections should be about advancing ideas, not winning for its own sake. I doubt you or any Arnold supporter could articulate what Arnold plans to do if gets into office.

Of course, all of this may be moot at this point if the 9th Circuit travesty is allowed to stand. Sigh..

I sure agree with you about the ninth, but I can't help but be caught up in the energy for Arnold. I see postive change. I like it.

Celebs don't excite me. I find celebs to be remarkably boring and shallow. But it seems that most on here do not agree. To each his own.
