Ann Coulter on Fox News tonight

Posted on 09/14/2003 8:03:02 PM PDT by MegaSilver

I just caught the last part of her appearance; a transcript would be appreciated. :)

Anyway, I was surprised that she took the stance she did on the Patriot Act. Perhaps it is effective in fighting the war on terrorism. On the other hand, it gives the government incredible power. And if and when Hillary Rodham Clinton takes the White House in 2008, I don't want to see her wielding that kind of power. I believe that the result would be far worse than her simply abusing it; I believe we might see the collapse of the United States as we know it.

Thoughts?

Yes, if Hillary Clinton takes the White House in 2008, this will be the end of the United States as we know it (or as anyone knows it, for that matter.) And the Patriot Act won't make any difference in that equation at all.

Like I said in another thread, this is exactly why we must do all we can to put a clamp on the government's power while we still have a Republican in office. To prevent Hillary from destroying the country, I would suggest:

1. Complete annihilation of the electoral collage. A presidential election based solely on popular vote. This should bar Hillary from being elected. If not...
2. An amendment to the U.S. constitution barring any vetos on any federal bill passed by the legislature on or after January 2008, expiring in February 2012 (thus giving Congress plenty of time to extend it should Hillary be re-elected)
3. Also effective January 2008 through February 2012, the office of the President shall be stripped of its title as commander-in-chief of the United States Armed Forces. This power shall go to the legislature.

Of course, I'm getting ahead of myself. We really should wait until 2007 or 2008 and have a look at the likelihood of Hillary getting elected.

>>1. Complete annihilation of the electoral collage.

Be careful what you ask for - that one goes both ways. Can you say President Gore?

Have you considered staying away from any meds that end in the suffix of "amine"? Slow down, and read what you wrote. Then do it again, compared to the Constitution. You give The Ankle way too much credit.

Hey, there's my photo in your post #4 (third one from top)! That scanned pretty well.

YOUR photos above that one are a work of ART, though! :-)

"There is no danger to freedom as long as we can elect anyone we choose."

That's a great point. It seems there are always periods of alarm over perceived civil rights violations but very little hard evidence--i.e. "Bob Smith of 123 Washington Street in Duluth is now in XYZ prison because he looked at George Bush funny."

I mean, where are the spouses of these folks who are in prison unfairly due to Ashcroft? 60 Minutes had a story on some citizens who were questioned and perhaps held by the government post-9-11, but even I was thinking, "Well, come ON, this is kind of a big deal, and a few inconvenienced folks ain't that big a deal."

Thanks for your perspective.

As long as you believe yourself to be helpless and inferior... you will live in abject terror of those you think would subjugate you

It's not that easy.

Standing up for your rights in any confrontation with the law is likely to get you killed or jailed on numerous trumped up charges.

It takes organized political action, not individual heroics, to prevent a tyranny. For the moment, that means the ballot. However, if Hitlery is elected, all bets are off regarding the normal election process in this country.

My guess is, she would never get to take the oath of office. But that's just my opinion, if anyone "out there" is listening.

I'm not arguing that sacrifices need to be made to fight the war on danger. But I think the Patriot Act is taking things a bit too far.

I think we'd be better off focusing on border patrol/illegal immigration and fighting a good fight in Iraq. Maybe I stand alone on this, but oh, well...

I'm supposed to be concerned that the Feds can learn what books I've been reading at the library?

Why yes. Didn't you know that it's more noble to allow thousands of your countrymen to die than allow the federal government to learn what books you've checked out at the library, or that -- gasp! -- you have overdue books.

"or that -- gasp! -- you have overdue books."

How could it possibly be of any concern to any government, local or federal, that I have overdue books?

There were a number of threads in 2000 about the Electoral College. If you read them, you will find that the EC is what keeps America a single nation. If all that were needed to win the presidency were a simple majority of the popular vote, then the ward heelers of NYC, LA, and Chicago would lock it up every time with their walking dead and brimming ballot boxes. Presidential candidates would willingly be gut-shot and left out in the sun rather than waste campaign time in Peoria. "Flyover country" would become something more than a snide joke about the cluelesseness of the elitists. And within a generation, you can be sure that the countryside would erupt in civil war. No more USA.

The Founding Fathers (take that you PC pansies!) knew better what would preserve the Union they created than you imagine.

Are you a secret Hillary supporter? She wants the electoral college done away with, and made noises about introducing a bill to do so after G.Bush was elected.Don't know if she actually did, but she said it was time for it to go and elect by popular vote. Gore WON the popular vote and would now be Pres. but for the electoral college.

Without the EC, Calif.,, NY, FL, and TX would elect EVERY Pres.--actually, CA, NY, and FL. They all have an enormous lib vote without the voter fraud. Add on 2 or 3 million fradulent, illegal votes, and you have a lib. elected every time.

This is why people here are saying the Patriot Act is moot. If Hill ever got in, she would just set about getting everything her way through Congress. You will note how recalcitrant the Dems have proved in thwarting the majority. Only imagine a Pres. Hillary. OMG, what a nightmare, a night stallion, nightsnakes....and oooonnn into that bad night.

Unlike most people, Coulter knows what is in the Patriot Act, and doesn't just react to the propaganda spread against it.

DANG!!

if you have nothing to hide, then you will not have to worry about the patriot act.

*Sigh* No, I'm not a Hillary supporter. My post on what we should do was meant as an exxaggeration (and to be funny). I mentioned eliminating the electoral college because, if I'm remembering my polls right, the majority of Americans would likely NOT vote for Hillary, but she would have a good head start in California and New York (the two biggest states) right off the bat. I wasn't thinking about the illegal votes for some reason--probably because my brain was switched on "low" power after reading my communications textbook this afternoon.

As far as the Patriot Act goes, I kind of feel dumb for bringing this whole thing up, anyway. I'm just wary about something that allows for this kind of government intervention. It opens up all kinds of doors... of course, lest I forget, Hillary Clinton has never been one to go for open doors. She kicks 'em in.

So, in closing, I'd like to thank everyone for your thoughts on all angles of this. I'm going to go sleep on the Patriot Act, wake up, go to COM 101, and potentially listen to a whole bunch of disgruntled students who think liberals don't have a voice bash on any conservative that dares speak up.
