"I see how the Observer might be using it for liberal purposes, but the subject matter is valid. It does need to be discussed."
As importantly, it has served to publicize an organization (here in the DC area) that many of us may wish to become involved with.

Its funny how they are all concerned about the wounded soldiers while they are in the military, but once they are discharged and become disable veterans, the Republicans and Democrats alike do all they can to screw them.
Most of these disabled veterans will battle years for benefits, and endure months of backlogged VA medical appointments to get basic needs.
And while they are putting up with this, the Congress and Senate will do all they can to cut thier veterans benefits, claiming they are entitlements.
We need them today, but when they are no longer useful, they are simply thrown away. Its pathetic.

Why does it need to be discussed? The liberal have prven they will do anything , including lie and mis-represent the truth , to stay in power. Why should we be discussing something written by a biased source? You want to talk about injuries and emotional distress of our soliders? Fine, they have a hell of a job, it is stressful and they very well may get hurt. Some get killed. That is the nature of war. We are at War, we will have emotional and physical injuries. We will have deaths. Freedom is not free.
Have resect for those killed by stoping the hysterical and wrongful representation of their mission.

The al-Guardian just discovered that non-combat casualties outnumber combat casualties 2 ot 3-to-1.
Historically it has been far worse.
Heck, when we sent a USMC company to Liberia recently, we found out the hard way that Liberia hosts a resistent to prophalactic drugs malaria that infected 100% of the Marines sent.

Bush should have focused on them before Iraq Yep, and MacArthur should've been restrained from counterattacking the Japanese until Hitler's Nazi thugs were totally defeated. </ sarcasm>
To: PatrioticCowboy
Well, the Taliban are sort of re-surging. "Sort of"? What does that mean?
Do you have any evidence other than the leftist British press to prove that?

Fine, they have a hell of a job, it is stressful and they very well may get hurt. Some get killed. That is the nature of war. We are at War, we will have emotional and physical injuries. Your glib attitude is disrespectful. Fine, no big deal, who cares, etc, etc. Sickening.
To: Consort
Then they will become political footballs and we will have contributed. They don't deserve that. So, therefore, we should acknowledge their existence? Interesting perspective.
To: Prodigal Son
Hard to pay attention to if nobody's reporting it. That's the point.
To: Cathryn Crawford
No ,I did not say it was no big deal. I said it was a big deal, it is a huge deal, Deaths and injuries are REAL.
What do you think war is about anyway? Many people haven been injured and killed for our freedoms. Freedom is not free. My point is that I disagree with you. I don't think we need to discuss a liberal's attempt to discredit our president and our troops as real news or as newsworthy.
What is there to say about the death and injuires of our troops. They happen, it is horrible, that is war.
Say a prayer and give thanks, but do not give power to our enemies by repeating their creed. Liberals will lie , steal and cheat to get power. Here they are stirring the pot and trying to play on the emotions of weak minded people in order to force us to loose another war. ( see: Vietnam war)
Out of respect for those soilders slain, I will support our troops until the job is done. Then I will do what I can to give thanks and support when they get home.
I will not be a flower petal and run from the reality of war. War is hell. Don't be hysterical and try to stand strong, will you?. Politics and discussions of war should be saved for rational people.

Please show me the quote were I have been hysterical.
I will reiterate it for you once more: The injured and wounded deserve as much attention as those killed in war.
To: Cathryn Crawford
Of course they do. No one argues that point with you. It is hysterical to get involved in this discussion on this author's terms. Look at the source. They are stirring the pot, lying and mis-representing data. It is hysterical to label my post as sickening and to mis-represent what I posted re: the deaths and injuries of our troops, because I disagree with you. Does that make sense to you yet?

The seriousness of the situation is being minimized to the American public.By who? The media or the government?
Several of us in this thread know how high the numbers of wounded are - it's not some great secret, and we didn't have to rely on having any kind of inside knowledge. If you keep up on what's going on and run the numbers through your head, it's easy to see it's over a 1000 casualties.
My personal belief (I'm repeating myself, sorry) - the media doesn't find a half dozen American soldiers getting wounded every day as "newsworthy" as other topics. They'd rather discuss the CA governor's race, or who died this week or whatever, because the same story everyday (Americans being wounded) gets old, and people get tired of it.
I don't think it's that people don't care about our wounded - I think it's just become an accepted part of the war (and it is a war, don't let anybody tell you otherwise).
The numbers that people really need to be paying attention to are how many Iraqis, Saudis, Syrians, Afghanistanis, Pakistanis, etc. we are killing and wounding everyday. No disrepect for our wounded, in fact I'm praising them - we are defeating our enemies in large numbers everyday.
That's the real story.
To: PatrioticCowboy
Well, the Taliban are sort of re-surging. If by coming out in the open a bit more, then yes, that might be true. By doing so, they are dying a lot more, not sort of dying a lot more, but dying a lot more :-)
To: No More Gore Anymore
What is there to say about the death and injuires of our troops. I'll tell you what there is to say, dammit. Acknowledging their existence is a start.
Your attitude is scary as hell to me.

" My son in law just returned from over there and has lost many friends there and in Afghanistan."
Lots here want to sweep their carcasses under the bed and ignore or hide it. It sickens me to see that happening. They toss off a "liberal drivel" and think they have done their good deed for the day with not a thought that there are those here who know better.
It does, however, make it easier to recognize which posters are "yellow dog", "love my chains" types and which have integrity and piercing intellect.
I hope and pray that your young man is able to find healing and comfort about the losses and the hurts he has seen and experienced. May God grant him favor. Many coming back cannot find work, either.
To: Cathryn Crawford
Again straw man( See: made up ) argument and hysteria on your part. It is difficult to debate a topic with a hysterical, emotional woman. You should not let your emotions rule you. Pay attention : here is the point once again....
You can not be a conservative and not get this. This is a leftist news source. This paper will slant the news to rile up emotional people ( mostly women). The goal for them is to get enough Americans upset that they call upon the governement to pull out of Iraq. Thus, losing the war and repeating Vietnam all over again ( which was abousive to our troops). The leftists and liberals do not want us to win, they do not care about the troops or their saftey. By choosing to repeat and discuss information you get from leftist sources you are damaging our troops and hurting our nation.
You say you want to discuss this topic , yet it seems to me you want to control the debate by calling names and using emotional outbursts to try and shame people. If you are going to talk about politics on a conservative forum you should not be surprise people don't agree with a liberal point of view.

In response. What is better ,to have a population who understands that War means injuries and deaths, or people who get excited about every news arcticle about deaths and injuries. Of course it hurts and it is horrible that good people die in the name of freedom. My sugestion to these people is to volunteer to help war heroes families, give the a job when they get back, say a prayer, send donations , start a college fund for slain troops children, help mow their lawn , buy them food for a month, say thank you, give them an extra smile and hold the door for them, buy them dinner, visit a widow and offer to help with errands, comfort an elder mom who has lost a child in the war .... do something.
OTH, Where would we be if these people did not sacrafice for us and for our children. I think it is more respectful to stand strong, support our troops and believe in their mission.
Most people know Freedom is not free. Those who don't get that now never will no matter what is on the news. In fact those are the peopel who are trying to manipulate the numbers for political gain and to hurt our President.
