September 13, 2003 -- An Army special forces soldier who shook hands with President Bush last year while he was being honored for his role in the war on terror was killed in Iraq yesterday.

Master Sgt. Kevin Morehead, 33, was one of two U.S. soldiers killed in a pre-dawn firefight in the town of Ramadi, officials said.

I don't want to be disrespectful to this thread honoring this young man, but all I need to do is look at my children and my grandkids and remember Sept. 11 and I KNOW why they are there. I am so very, very greatful that men and women will volunteer, VOLUNTEER (not forced, not threatened), but volunteer to put their lives on the line and defend not only us but those in other countries that either can't, or won't defend themselves.
President Bush has the resolve to get it done, now he just needs the support from our Congress and the American people to finish it. And than get our people home.

There was an excellent letter on this theme in The Wall Street Journal on Thursday (9/11) from a Gold Star mother whose son was killed in Afghanistan on October 19, 2001, at the very start of the operations there.

That was certainly not disrespectful. This warrior is an example of what sets this nation far above the other nations of this world. This man volunteered to defend our principles and our citizenry, and he will always be not only a hero but also a finest example of what America stands for. May the very God of Peace grant peace to this Soldier's family and protect the very fellow Soldiers this man no doubt was fighting to support in the field.

Prayers for ALL who have sacrificed to support our freedom.

Your post is well founded and this is the only part that even shows disrespect. Not conveyed to you but to the one's that are so vehmently opposing our efforts overseas to help insure that those efforts don't become a homeland issue again just for political gain.

Thank you for your comments on my husband Master Sgt Kevin Morehead. I thank everyone that said nice things about him; and what he believed in and stood for. He was my hero long before all this tragedy occurred. He would be proud to see everyone's comments. Thank you again and God Bless!
