[history]
Washington -- Like British soccer fans, Tom McClintock's hard-core conservative supporters sound like they would rather burn down the stadium than switch their loyalty to Arnold Schwarzenegger, even if it means losing California's governorship to someone who makes Gov. Gray Davis look like a Republican.

"He is the kind of person that pressure, whether applied directly or indirectly, doesn't affect. So if somebody gets in his face -- Schwarzenegger or a big donor or the chairman of the party or the leader of the Legislature -- telling him what he needs to do, it has the opposite impact of what they want to achieve. You can't tell Tom McClintock what to do or Tom McClintock will tell you where to take it." Sounds like the kind of person all of us can admire. Those are the qualities of a true leader.

Often an alcoholic must hit bottom before facing facts. It's too bad that he often drags down those who love him in the proces.

C-SPAN (all Left, all the time) surprised the heck out of me by showing a town hall meeting Arnold had in San Diego yesterday. It was the first time I was able to see him interact with voters and take their questions over about an hour. Although I didn't expect to be, I was impressed with Arnold's command of the issues and his direct way of answering each question.

"To get a victory just to have a Republican there and still lose all of the issues that you feel strongly about -- what kind of victory is that?" Conservatives make last stand for principle in the Republican Party. Can they withstand the charge of the RINOs redoing the Party in the image and likeness of liberal Democrats?

Did Arnold seem to care about the children?
He previously said they had first claims to the California treasury. Which might surprise the bond holders.

Actually, those are the qualities of a rigid, sanctimonious individual who entirely disrespects and dismisses the input of others. Not a leader at all, nor a consensus builder, but a my-way-or-the-highway type and the consequences be damned, not just to himself, but to all those he has pretensions of leading.

Those who consider themselves to be "real" conservatives do not have exclusive ownership of principles. All demagogues stand on their own perception of principles.

Yeah I have to wonder at the REAL reason for running? If it's to set the stage for a run against Boxer all well and good. BUT I'll hold McClintock responsable for harming whats left of the Republican party if the fratricide continues.
