DINUBA -- In this agricultural town in the San Joaquin Valley, where a 225,000-gallon water tower looms as the local landmark, there are some loyalties that transcend small-town differences and party politics.

There is the hometown -- first and foremost -- and the pride people here share in their famous sons and daughters.

The grandson of Mexican immigrants, Bustamante was born here in 1953, ...

Where is the birth certificate or proof of that, Cruz?

[ "I worked precincts for him," said the woman, who knew him as a child as Michael. ]

You were probably looking under the wrong name in the Census records ;)

"To me, he's a role model for Hispanic kids -- not just in California, but throughout the United States."

Ah, I see. It matters not WHAT he stands for, all that matters is that he is Hispanic. Makes perfect sense to me...........not!

It makes just as much sense for women who vote in the likes of Feinstein, Boxer, McKinney, et. al. just because they are WOMEN.

But the simple Dinuba connection remains strong for Contreras, whose town of about 18,000 is now more than 70 percent Latino.

Sure they're coming over here from Mexico to have a better life. How is Bustamante any different than the politicians they elected in Mexico? He's not. They're bringing with them the exact same mentality they had in Mexico ----- which has democracy. Much of the problem is this culture ---- they want big government to "take care of them", they're behind the Marxist Bustamante 100%

"To me, he's a role model for Hispanic kids --

Bustamecha is a role model, too bad he has taken positions against the faith and sensibility of the Hispanic community. I don't believe that Bustamecha cares a whit whether Hispanic kids growing up in Dinuba have the opportunities that he had, including becoming proficient in English.

IMHO: the greatest thing that the Hispanics have going for them is their strong sense of faith and family. I don't think that California Democrats are big on those values.
