(KSDK) -- A three year old boy is out of the hospital after a vicious dog attack. A pit bull bit Drew Coleman yesterday in midtown.
Drew was walking with his family when the dog attacked him. The family had reportedly stopped to talk with the dog's owner. The owner let the dog off the chain and that's when it bit him on the leg.
Drew needed 30 stitches on his leg. The dog is now with animal control.

"I am tired of this anti-pitbull garbage. They are sweet dogs, no more dangerous than a golden retriever!"

My neighbor has (illegal) pits, several of them. Our neighborhood has become the kind of neighborhood where you want a slightly intimidating dog in the backyard, but I question the wisdom of owning dogs that are known killers.
One of them has become a nuisance barker, the kind of dog that just never shuts up. He is the most aggressive one, and they have put a small enclosure with an 8' fence around it in their backyard just for him. He said the dog is "irritable." He's wanting to borrow my anti-bark collar that jolts a dog whenever he barks. (Please note: I don't believe the collar works--I think it just gives a bored dog a new kind of entertainment.)
I have a bad feeling about this. Oh, let me put this shock-inducing collar on an irritable pit bull!

Yesterday in Bakersfield CA, an 18 month old was malled by two pit bulls which were family pets. The baby was left home alone. Now the baby is in an ICU unit after being recued by a bystander.
I would have taken great pleasure in killing these dogs,.........just before I beat the parents senseless.

My knuckle-headed neighbor (in Pittsburgh, PA) kept his pit bulls in the basement. The female was in heat and howled 24/7 for two weeks, I swear.
There was a litter of pups that he promptly destroyed since they weren't "up to caliber" (Knuckleheads words.) The male used to be chained in the yard and would charge my children or me whenever we passed the property. TG, it was a short chain.

If the collar was put on the owner it might do more good.

Saw the report on this yesterday......the kid wanted to pet the dog.Idiot owner for unchaining the dog and idiot parent(s) for letting the child close enough to be bitten by a strange dog.

My dog does not have it in him to attack anyone, only to protect me, if need be.
Surely these dogs are trained or taught this or treated mean, so in turn the act mean.
I have seen very gentle pit bulls.

Sounds like a candidate for some poisoned meat.

I agree...to a point about the training.Too many people get dogs of breeds that are well known to be ill-tempered (for that very reason), and ruin them through bad training methods, or more likely abuse.
Even the sweetest dog can bite/attack if the "right" triggers are present.
Could be anything from strangers too close to "their" person(s) or belongings, other dogs/animals around, loud noises (screams/squeals/laughter), or any other factors that might not occur again other than in that instant.
Heck, when I was about 8 or so, I got bit on the arm by our sweet collie when she was trying to protect me from one of our PITA cocker spaniels.
She had never bit any of us kids -she had bitten my uncle years before--but he had kicked her first so he deserved it!
Sadly she died of old age a few months later but I still have the scars to remember her by.
;-`)
We had some friends who lived just down the street who owned the sweetest Doberman, who never so much as growled at any of us kids.
Their cat was the terror. :-`)

I wish EVERYONE could own a dog like my boy Sparky.
He is as sweet as sugar. I cannot imagine life with out him. Even though he is an old man (13) and his sense are not what they use to be, we were on our daily outing to the lake. When we returned, (it was a beautiful day and I had all the windows rolled down on the car)
A guy pulled his car up along mine at the red light. He said "oh! I like the cross that you have hanging from your rear veiw mirror...look I have one too!" I looked over nodded and my eyes glanced back on the seat where Sparky was laying. The mans eyes followed mine. He said" Oh! you have a dog! I said yeah!
Sparky was still sitting quietly.
Then the guy said..."by the way ...Are you single?"
No sooner did the last word come out of his mouth..Sparky WENT berserk!! Sparky was answering for me ! As I drove away I thought and laughed "Sparky IS still as sharp as ever!!
That's My Boy!!

I agree..i currently own an Amercian pittbull and a shar-pi (which is a Chinese pittbull) and they protect me but they will not harm anyone unless that person is trying to harm me..i think this stupid stuff about pittbulls being dangerous needs to stop..any dog can be dangerous it just depends on how you raise them..
To: ambrose
Does it make a difference when they are only half pit bull? There is a mix next door. I was concerned about my children playing over there. Then the dog met my cat. My cat is a little half Himalayan. The dog is scared of the cat.
To: ambrose
oh my gosh..that is a picture you have no clue what that dog is acctually doing..a pittbull can be just as nice as any other dog..have you ever owned a pitt?? because if you have i think that your opinion would change i currently own two and they have never harmed anyone..the only reason you are saying this is because of the charges against pittbulls..but what you arent seeig is the charges against all other dogs to..reporters only put news about pitbulls on the news because they know how everyone reacts!
