Sports radio station 680 The Fan is bringing on Christopher Rude, the beer-and-babes morning man at 96 rock before the Regular Guys took over in 1998. Rude will replace Arnie Spanier, who came from Los Angeles a year ago but was unable to lift The Fan's modest ratings against rival 790 The Zone's morning show.
96 rock dumped Rude after four years as the highly paid afternoon host late last year for salary reasons. Rude subbed for 680 afternoon guy Buck Belue for a week in June, and management must have liked what it heard. Rude couldn't be reached for comment, but Fan president David Dickey acknowledged Rude is coming. "I'm trying to add two more people to beef up the team," he said.
Yes he will.
As far as the regular guys are concerned, I'm sure they're good guys, but I cannot stand their morning show.
At least the regular guys aren't as bad as Jimmy Barron on 99X, whose constant "anyone who lives outside the perimeter is an inbred hick" spiel got old 4 years ago.
I've e-mailed Mr. Barron on several occasions and offered to publically debate him on any political issue he wants. I'm one of those so called "stupid inbred hick natives" he blabs about constantly inbetween stale republican jokes. I have no doubt this uneducated "hick" would wipe the floor with his candy a$$.
I also told him if he didn't like the debate idea, we could always go one on one on a paintball field. Predictably, I've yet to get a response.
"After listening to the Regular Guys for a week or two, I have gotten used to their sense of humor.....I especially like the F-You line."
Don't get me wrong, I like the two guys. And their material isn't all that bad.(I like the F You line too) I guess my problem with the show is the increased ratio of talk to music since clear channel bought the station, and is now common amongst all the major music station's morning shows.
We already have 2 major am news/talk stations, and for comedy there's always the 2 NPR stations. I wish some robot radio exec somewhere would get their head out of their bosses a$$ long enough to realize that a Fm rock station that actually played 40 minutes of music an hour would probably get some good market share in the morning drive time slot.
