Candidates Speak On "Armstrong & Getty Show"
POSTED: 12:13 p.m. PDT September 12, 2003 UPDATED: 1:27 p.m. PDT September 12, 2003
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tom McClintock had a date of sorts Friday morning.
The hosts of Sacramento talk radio program "The Armstrong and Getty Show" on Talk 650 KSTE arranged a surprise on-air confrontation between the two. McClintock asked Schwarzenegger repeatedly to debate him, and the actor demurred.
McClintock asked: "We've got a Republican convention coming up this weekend, you and I are the two Republican candidates now left in the race, why don't we get together and discuss the major issues of this campaign?"
Schwarzenegger replied that he'd be, in his words, "more than happy" to "get together" with the state senator from Northridge.
McClintock repeated his question: "Can we do that in a debate before the convention Saturday? We're both going to be there."
Schwarzenegger said "No," adding that he would be more than happy to meet with McClintock and discuss issues.
The actor then told McClintock the important thing is to work together on issues. McClintock extended the debate offer a final time and Schwarzenegger signed off by saying, "We will talk about all those things, and we will have a great time at the Republican convention."
A Los Angeles Times poll released late Thursday showed McClintock with support from 18 percent of likely voters to Schwarzenegger's 25 percent. McClintock's support grew 6 percentage points since the August poll, while Schwarzenegger's grew 3 percentage points. Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante was the leading candidate in the poll, with 30 percent.
"The Armstrong & Getty Show" also airs on KQCA-58 TV.

Too bad Schwarzenegger won't do it. Even a closed-door debate before the party delegates would be helpful.

Gay writer? By the way he only quotes the LA Times survey, I'd think that likely. The gay boys do not like Arnold. He's a bit too handy with the ladies for their taste.

Sorry folks... I kept getting an 'proxy' error message. Didn't mean to post this three times.
I didn't think it posted at all.

I think we must be related, because I have done that more times than I like to remember---LOL!
I sure wish McClintock could win this thing. Think of it--a real conservative running CA. Oh what a happy day that would be!

The surprise gets a repeat on Sat. morning, when 650 am reruns highlights of the weekday show. Run, Tom, run! See Arnold run!

If people heard Arnie and Tom side by side, I believe the confidence level would have to go to Tom. Too bad Arnie won't debate. He's still hiding behind the handlers so the people of California only hear the spin and don't have a basis to compare the candidates.

The L.A. Times accomplished their goal with their "poll" (conveniently released after other current ones just discussed & right before the convention). The poll does not agree with others released just yesterday and particualarly in terms of Arnold. But...they have kept the Republicans hopelessly split, with just days to go. If you choose to believe the Survey America poll and another one from yesterday, Arnold has 39%. Of course, some would prefer to see him at 25%. We can pick and choose our own "reality" but on October 7th there will be only one, and all the bickering will have led to it. It sure seems no compromise will, or an objective assessment of the source of the lastest euphoria. The L.A. Times! Amazing, really.

I doubt it. Arnold's has the best shot at stopping large breasts Bustamante from laughing on election night at the suckers who voted McClintock.

Here's three polls that are at least fairly close to each other in numbers...... It would be interesting to see the numbers from the LA Times poll.....
The real problem is that McClintock with all his years of being in the Party and running for offices can't muster much over 28% of the Republican Party voters....
Republican Voters Schwarzenegger McClintock
CA Field Poll 43% 28%
USA Survey Poll 56% 25%
CA C of C Poll 44% 23%

The poll does not agree with others released just yesterday and particualarly in terms of Arnold. I want Tom, but this L.A. Times poll stinks to high heaven...
Once again, they "supplement" their results with Latino voters (thereby showing Bustamante ahead...) ask questions with adjectives like "seriously", don't print all the questions they asked, did not rotate the candidates when asking which candidate was preferred...
I would use the Times as fishwrap, except I don't want to make the fish smell bad...

Isn't it amazing how many useful idiots of the LA Slimes there are here? They get played so easily like bad fiddles.

I'm voting for McClintock. Period. Schwarzenegger is pro abortion. Like I said, I'm voting for Tom . . . period!

But,but,but... just somehow "magically", moderates and independants are going to vote for him. DELUSION!

So when does he plan on running against Bustamonte? In the recall election, everybody is running against everybody. If Schwarzenegger stays in, Bustamante will have a good chance of winning.

So, did McTickTock deliberately and knowingly participate in this juvenile, unethical, cheap-shop prank AGAINST HIS PARTY'S LEADING CANDIDATE?
He is SO not ready for prime time.
If this was done knowingly, he's about shot any chance I'd ever support him in a future primary.
Less than a month away, and he's still trying to ruin his party's chance to win.
What a pathetic, clueless loser.
