Caution, more Democrat sellout

SACRAMENTO -- A bill that would allow undocumented immigrants to apply for financial aid at California community colleges was approved by the state Assembly on Thursday.

The bill, by Sen. Martha Escutia, D-Norwalk, would direct the board of governors to establish a process so students without legal immigration status can apply to have tuition waived.

It would require that the student attended high school in California for at least three years, obtained a diploma or an equivalent degree and, if the student isn't in the state legally, has applied to become a legal resident.

Opponents said the bill followed in the footsteps of the recently approved bill to allow illegal immigrants to get driver's licenses.

"Now we want to give financial aid in community colleges to illegal aliens?" said Assemblyman Dennis Mountjoy, R-Monrovia. "Members, what is the matter with you?"

But supporters said the bill would help those students become educated members of the state's work force, helping the economy.

"We can continue to bury our heads in the sand and ignore it, but this helps kids who are in this state, who have graduated from high school, who we hope will go on to college, or learn a trade," said Assemblyman Joe Nation, D-San Rafael. "It's the right thing to do politically, it's the right thing to do socially, and it's the right thing to do economically as well."

The bill was approved on a 43-27 vote, returning to the Senate for approval of Assembly amendments.

The Senate and the Legislature both passed this Bill by overwhelming margins.

Whys should they get away with it?

Exacty. I legally immigrated here in 1992 and never asked for a dime from the State/Government, I paid $600 to be allowed here. I pay taxes ever since, never used welfare. As a legal immigrant you can't even get welfare for the first 10 years (parents-in-law had to sign a statement to give financial aid if I need it, before I was allowed 'in') which is fine! So, why should illegals get it?

For example the price of tomatoes went down as machines took over. I've watched those machines load trucks as conveyor belts full of tomatoes transport tomatoes from rows of plants directly into the truck. One machine operator, one truck driver. Twenty-four hours a day around Sacramento (Sack-of-tomatoes).

CIS, et al studies show that lettuce could increase by five cents a head. There may still be hundreds of farm workers around Salinas like there were when I was there. But maybe they have machines to harvest the lettuce now. I don't know.

I do know that I've driven through farm country almost daily around Sack-of-tomatoes all this year. I've seen lots of weird machines and very few farm workers in the fields -- and many of them were women.

Welcome aboard and like you, I just don't get this at all.

It occurs to me that Davis and company know they are going down and they want devisive issues to hammer the republicans on in 2006.

If Davis implements this s--t, then the republicans can be slammed for removing it. Then when the populace is even further saturated with people who can be manipulated, democrats will do so with pleasure.

thank you, officially an American since January of 2002 :) I really think though that the majority of Californians is against all of this stuff (even my liberal father-in-law), but the liberal media makes it look like it's not so. Their polls for example, I do't believe any of it!
I came to the conclusion that I should have come here illegally. I would have gotten free college, welfare, all kinds of other benefits (hmmmm, a drivers license without a test???) Instead I filled out a ton of paperwork and paid $600 alone for that. Still, I'm proud and have a can sleep well at night for bein just plain honest.
(by the way, I had a drivers license as a legal immigrant, I could have registered to vote with it I guess? We should be required to show a birth certificate, naturization certificate or passport for ID to register).

The real problem in Calif is out of control illegal and semi legal immigration. Giant sucking sound of money sent home instead of spent in the local economy, overburdened social and medical services, etc. What exactly are Arnold and/or McClintock going to do about this? If they don't, they may fail miserably.
