My apologies if this was posted before; I got interested in how Proposition 187 came to be held "unconstitional" and came across this history, which suggests that the process was rigged.

On the O'Reily Factor, the Schwarzinaeger interview... Ahnold said he would not discontinue services to illegals in Kalifornia because the supreme court said Prop. 187 was found unconstitutional... Does your article suggest there is no chance of appealing it further, or re writing it to start again? How sad.

So Gray Davis made a commitment to the President of Mexico to stop Proposition 187. Within a month of taking office in 1999 Dufus was off to Mexico to "repair" the damage done by former Gov. Pete Wilson and the former governor's support for "anti-immigrant" measures.
Thanks for posting the article. I remember the events clearly. Wilson had just one opportunity to file an appeal -- the judge sat one her decision for almost four years. Davis refused to support the appeal. So you had a government that opposed 187 mediating with opponents of 187.
I get the urge to kill when I read some "reporter" saying that the courts defeated Prop 187.
I have said from the start: THE RECALL IS A REFERENDUM ON PROPOSITION 187. PERIOD. That's the way it should be.
