I just drove to NYC from California (the long way, through the South). I went down to the WTC site yesterday. I think that I was too late for the official commemoration, but there were all sorts of memorials public and private, candles with pictures of loved ones, and cops and firefighters in dress uniforms.

I remember flying into NYC Airport as a teenager for the first time and thinking the Statue of Liberty and the huge buildings on the small island were something out of a dream..

If an event that changed the world forever occurred in my neighborhood I would be honored to have the lights on in memory of those whose lives were lost.
Sorry sir, but I am not one to put myself before the honoring of others.

I remember the first time I saw New York City was when I was five back in 1989. It was a slightly cloudy day. However, I distinctly remember the Empire State Building and the WTC. Luckily, later in life, I had the experience of climbing the WTC Tower 2. It's a shame that no one will have the thrilling experience of being able to look so far again.

I can see the lower New York skyline from my apartment in Jersey City. The lights were haunting, but beautiful. They went up in the sky as far as I could see.
What was especially beautiful was the lights backgrounded by the first light of the new dawn this morning. It was incredible.
