[history]
Women seeking an abortion in Missouri will now have to wait.
The Missouri Senate voted 23-8 Thursday to override Gov. Bob Holden's veto of a bill requiring a 24-hour waiting period for all abortions.
The Missouri House overrode the measure on Wednesday by a substantial margin.

Unbelievably good news. If it weren't President Bush, the GOP wouldn't get a veto proof majority in the Missouri State Legislature and Senator Jim Talent. Its been a very great day for the folks of the Show Me State!

Again, by the narrowest of margins. Jon Dolan's return from Cuba to vote, I'm sure, was the deciding factor in both cases.

That's fantastic. I just moved out of Missouri to Wisconsin- but I am still proud of my former statemates!

y'know Luke, I think One Term Bob is either about to become the most overridden governor in Missouri history..or has he achieved that illustrious position already?

opponents remain concerned about its effect on poor rural women Who wouldn't be. They will have to wait a whole 24 hours to kill their children. I'm sure it will be a horrible 24 hours.

It's a great day to live in Missouri!

They should also require that prospective abortion receivers spend that twenty four hours talking to women who have already had abortions performed. They can learn about the post traumatic stress syndrome, depression (which can lead to drug/alcohol abuse), lack of self esteem, and general malaise that can follow them the rest of their lives.

Out of good conscience I must state the following...
I'm not strictly "Pro-Life". Actually pretty agnostic about the whole subject. But this vote just makes SIMPLE COMMON SENSE!!! A minor can't get a standard medical proceedure without parental consent, why should they be able to get an abortion??
This is a WINNER of an issue!!
Well done!!

We should be asking what the enforcement provisions are?
Baby killer just like other common criminals usually DON'T obey and respect laws anyway. What you say?

The prochoiceers are also anti-family. We are helped by their fanatical inability to compromise.

They also expressed dismay that the bill has no exceptions for victims of rape and incest. Oh, glad they didn't forget this little piece of propaganda. These catagories make up, what, less than 1% of all abortions? I know that sounds cruel to someone made pregnant by rape or incest, but that's reality.
I think that the child of such unfortunate conception is still innocent and should not become the second victim of the crime. Therefore, I don't see a need to continually include legal loopholes for baby killers to slip through.
Imagine the jump in rape statistics if the loop hole is allowed.

Bump to you.

Can somebody post some Lieberal howlings and whinings over the Evil Right Wing taking control in Missouri and flooding the streets with guns and forcing rape victims to have babies?
There are *bound* to be some out there... and I'm drooling all over my keyboard just thinking about it... you cannot *imagine* how much I like hearing Lieberals wail...
