Comedian Chong Sentenced on Drug Charges

By DAN NEPHIN, Associated Press Writer

PITTSBURGH - Tommy Chong (news), who played one half of the dope-smoking duo in the Cheech and Chong movies, was sentenced to nine months in federal prison and fined $20,000 Thursday for selling bongs and other drug paraphernalia over the Internet.

The 65-year-old was allowed to remain free until federal prison officials tell him in a few weeks where he must report to prison.

Chong also forfeited about $100,000 for his arrest on federal drug paraphernalia charges. He'll spend a year on probation after he's released from prison.

His Nice Dreams Enterprises, which made a line of marijuana bongs and pipes, was to be sentenced later Thursday. Under federal law, the business itself can be placed on probation or face other sanctions.

If you say Chong did not know what he was doing(pushing a line of drug paraphernalia on the internet) then there goes your arguement that pot users are thoughtful law abiding people.

Were the people who aided runaway slaves thoughtful, law-abiing people?

.(i.e to you Jeff, Tommy Chong is above the law, because Tommy Chong is an icon to you).

Why do you possibly think Chong is an "icon" to me? To me, "icons" are people such as my parents, pastor, firefighters, etc.

That said, we both realized he broke the law. In YOUR opinion, do you think his punishment is fitting or not? If not, what do YOU feel would be an appropriate punishment?

Thank you, Dane, for once again demonstrating exactly why you are the dimmest bulb at this website.

Libertarians, hmmmm, aren't they the folks who the owner of this site called our "good friends"?

I wonder what he was threatened with to plead guilty to what he did for sell these 'dual use technology' items.

I heard he was threatened with prosecution for selling crack pipes, because his bongs were made of glass. Apparantly you can only smoke crack rocks in a glass pipe.

You get more like my hero Walter E. Williams every day, beloved TigersEye...and you know how much I respect him for his manly leadership at home and wisdom in the affairs of men.

Perhaps a call to MRS. Williams would be helpful in my growth as your perfect counterpart...she's had something like 50 years of practice at buffing paint and replacing bearings! Her husband is unarguably a confidant and secure man, demonstrating how adept she is at her role in marriage.

I'd like to be more like her, honest!

Oh, sheesh the last refuge of the pro-drug crowd.

Oh BTW, jeff, get back to me when you have a picture of Tommy Chong working everyday in the cotton fields, being whipped, in chains, and being sold in auction.

"Canada, Holland, Portugal, Spain, Germany, Denmark... all possibilities. There are many countries in the world where people are not incarcerated for selling pipes."

So, that is your definition of freedom? Freedom to get stoned and sell drug paraphernalia? Buddy, you are the epitome of what's wrong with America these days!

Ralph and Herbie was always my favorite cut off that album. Geez, we wore that album out as kids.

"Ralph...Ralph...Hey Ralph..."
"Hey I'm under here Herbie..."
"What're you doing under there man?"...
"I'm hiding from my dumb human..."
"What'd you do, crap on the rug again?..."
"No man, he wants to get me a flea bath..."
"A FLEA BATH?..."
"Yeah, everytime HE catches something, I have to get the flea bath!..."

"In order to continue an appropriations bill before next DEA budget is voted on, in order to vote on the bill, all congresscritters shall submit to urine, hair, blood, drug testing. "

I'll second that. And lets check out some of these judges and staff as well. While you're at it, law enforcement. Heck, I had to 'submit a cup' to take marketing photos! These guys should do at least that, IMHO of course.

Tommy Chong is an acquaintince of mine and he isn't a bad guy. They're throwing businessmen like Tommy Chong in jail and letting child rapists free. Yes Chong's business is not the best one, but it's no different from tobacco companies. I am still in shock. This is just insanity.

Help me with this one:

"Tommy Chong sold a bong for a song and said, 'I know it was wrong, but can't we all get along?'"

Drug paraphanalia, eh? Does that mean Pink Floyd albums are illegal?

A "bong" is a hunk of glass. Is the law against this kind of drug paraphanalia a though crime?
