Shalom: There is a majority in cabinet supporting Arafat expulsion

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon arrived home early Thursday, cutting short a trip to India, to consider how to respond to two Palestinian suicide bombings, and an official said options included invading Gaza or expelling Yasser Arafat.
Sharon planned to convene the security cabinet for urgent talks Thursday, after a pair of bombers killed 15 Israelis in attacks in central Israel and Jerusalem just five hours apart on Tuesday.
Hard-liners in Sharon's Cabinet have long clamored for expulsion of Arafat. Up to now Sharon has rebuffed the deportation calls, fearing international condemnation.
Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom, who supports the deportation of Arafat, told Army Radio Thursday that he believes that there is a majority within the cabinet supporting the move.
"The moment Arafat is out, someone else will sprout up after him and will control the security forces, the PA's funds," Shalom said. "The moment he isn't here, more moderate officials will be able to move in after him."
Likud Minister Yisrael Katz said Thursday that Israel does not have to wait to receive America's authorization to expel the Palestinian leader.
"As far as I know, there is no Israeli commitment to the Americans not to take action," Katz said. "Israel is allowed, able and obligated to make its own decisions."
Former Prime Minister Shimon Peres, head of the moderate opposition Labor Party, warned that expelling Arafat would be a "historic mistake" that would "deepen the hostilities between the Palestinians and ourselves." He told CNN, "Arafat outside (his Ramallah office) will be more effective and more negative than he is today."

Expulsion leaves him on the world stage, fawned over as a great leader by the Europeans, the U.N., and all his othery sycophants. Israel needs to either kill Arafat or else capture him and put him on trial.
As a martyr he can do no more damage.

"The moment he isn't here, more moderate officials will be able to move in after him." Moderate officials? Someone in here said recently that a "moderate arab is one who detonates the bomb by remote control."
When will they figure out that only complete and total separation of Israelis and palestinians, whether through walls, fences, or extermination of every last palestinian, will solve this problem.

Would be a bit more enthused if the headline read "Shalom: There is a majority in cabinet supporting Arafat execution!"

Here's hoping the Israeli definition of expulsion looks something like this...
To: Alouette
The only place I want to see him expelled is out the front of a rocket launcher into the Mediterranean. They won't kill him because of "world opinion", which just proves that the world is full of idiots. But Arafat, IMO, is near the top of the list of people in this here world that, as they say down in Texas, "just need killin'."

Not good enough. Vaporize him. At the least, expel him at a suficiently high MACH speed to rend him.

I say NO to expelling Arafat...........KILL HIS SORRY ASS YESTERDAY ! And any other "terrorist leader" that advocates such atrocities against non-combatants of any nation. We are after UBL and Saddam for just such activities. Why do we or Israel fear the PLO/Hammas then. Wipe their leadership from the face of this earth NOW !
Just my opinion of course..........Stay Safe

Sharon needs to kill Arafat already, geeze! To hell with international condemnation. The usual terrorist supporters will raise hell, but I bet most will be relieved that the head of the snake is gone.
Deporting Arafat would be a HUGE mistake. He would continue to recruit and plot more terrorist hits and would not be under the watchful eye of Israel. Kill the bastard and be done with it!
To: Alouette
He will not be expelled because of US pressure, which will therefore bring Sharon not to call for a vote on the issue (because there is a majority favorable to getting rid of Arafat).
My only wish is that Israel does not only get rid of Arafat, but also get rid of the Palestinian Authority terror regime. There is no one in that regime which one can talk to.
