13 alumni from my HS are on that list as well as 5 residents of my town.

Fifteen from my town are on the list, one I knew personally, and two more were related to friends of mine.

Today really has been an emotional day. This morning I stopped by the local dinner, where a couple dozen people sat in total silence staring at the TV as the names of each victum was read. An elderly, African-American lady sitting nearby was crying like a baby, and when she calmed down I asked her if she was OK. She said that she would be, and then I asked if she lost someone on 09.11. She said, "We all lost 3000 people that day."

I know you weren't going wobbly! Not in a million years.

My comments were directed at those in our society who try to "understand" these murderous sub-human pigs and to those who believe appeasement is better than fighting. The Neville Chamberlains of our society have obviously not learned from history.

Happy Birthday you all!

As someone mentioned it before: don´t let the terrorists have control about your birthday, too! This is indeed a very special day for many many people all over the world. Many millions remember on that day that the civilized world was compelled to give the terrorists an answer which they deserve, and - sadly enough - millions are celebrating today.

You remember the deads, and I´m sure that they would never want you to be sad all over the day. Put a little smile in your faces and enjoy that you all are alive! The victims of September 11 2001 would have wanted that you have joy in your life - even on that date.

May God bless you, your family, and all those who fight for our freedom!

My daughter lives in the Princeton NJ area and that area lost a number of people on 9/11. The fire companies in that area, as well as the rest of the tri-state area, were in NYC either that night or the following day. Most of the command structure of the FDNY was lost on 9/11, so much of their equipment was destroyed. Besides sending people to Ground Zero, the rest of the city still had to be covered.

Many of the fire companies that went up to NYC were volunteer and those firefighters gave of themselves for weeks afterwards.

I remember little things--a glove company in our area sending cases of heavy-duty gloves to NYC for the workers; another company sending boots with heavy-duty soles for the workers....and I remember the workers digging out the rubble, five gallon pail at a time....

"We all lost 3000 people that day."

What a wise answer.

A chapel newly-installed for prayer and contemplation in the government Pentagon building?

Oh, my....does the ACLU know about this abuse of taxpayers' money?

Isn't it awesome. I'm wondering if it's an organized outreach on the part of Ft. Bragg and whether others here in NYC received similar messages, or if it was an individual gesture on his part. I'm sorry he went into my voicemail and that I wasn't here to take his call. It was really heartwarming.

I'm wondering also. I'll ping my list (there are lots of NYC FReepers on this list) to see if anyone else received a call.

I am thinking today how much I resent both the media and those in office who carp at the President. For a few months after 9/11, I thought we could be a unified nation. I liked that feeling.

I liked talking to the check-out girl at the deli and knowing that she and I would fight togather if someone attacked our city. I liked it that my democrat sister told me that she thought Bush was doing an excellent job. I liked it that I didn't feel that Midwestern suspicion of New Yorkers, but instead considered it OUR city.

But evil people are trying to rob me of that. They don't WANT us to work together, to like and respect each other. They want division and hatred. They want power for themselves, and they want the public to stop supporting soldiers and flying the flag.

It makes me sad and angry. It is wrong. I am glad this thread is here today so that I can still see that most people here still share the feelings I have.

What was really eerie in many of the commuter suburbs around NYC, especially in Westchester...in the days after, the parking lots were all empty....the only cars that weren't moved after two days were those belonging to those that had died in the WTC....

I just got into the office here in NYC and had a voicemail message waiting for me. It was a soldier stationed at Fort Bragg who randomly dialed a NYC number wanting to connect with someone in the city to offer his thoughts and prayers. I can't tell you how touched I am right now. He just made my day.

To NYC FReepers on my list: Did you get a similar call today?

Please FReepmail me if you want on or off my infrequent ‘miscellaneous’ ping list.

Republicans chose to hold next year's national convention in Manhattan, and at an unusually late date, Aug. 30 to Sept. 2. The traditional post-convention bounce will take Bush right up to the third anniversary of the hijackings.

Thanks for the article Timeout. The Dems are disgusting

And as for the convention ... I recall Hellary fought real hard to get the DNC convention in NY ..

I want to try and express something that's been irking me more and more lately. Not sure if it's just me, but I'd thought I'd try it out on your two...the media and the Dems continue their drumbeat about the "tragic" deaths of American troops in Iraq..yet, if I'm correct..the total number of American troops KIA in the war in terror since 9/11..that's Afghanistan, Iraq, and a few other garden sports around the globe..is LESS than the number of uniformed personnel, ( FDNY, NYPD, PAPD, EMT ) that were killed at the WTC on 9/11..yet these brave folks, who ran towards the towers, are always correctly referred to as heroes...you never see their deaths referred to as "tragic"..because "tragic" implies wasted...and their lives were NOT wasted....yet "tragic" is nearly always applied to reports of troops killed during ambushes in Iraq...

I too liked, no, loved, the feeling that the nation was united after 9/11. It was the ONLY good to come of that catastrophe.

There are so many who care more for their own power than for their wonderful country's future national security. There are some who seem to WISH for bad things for the nation - loss of jobs, another terrorist attack - so they can blame the current administration.

It is evil to think like that but they have made their feelings and their positions so clear, it is unmistakable.

When I tried to discuss this earlier, another Freeper requested that I refrain from making political comments on a thread of this nature. I have respected that feeling, and until now refrained from making political comments, until now.

I vehemently disagree that politics do not belong on a thread of this nature. It is like ignoring the elephant in the living room and that is what got us here in the first place.

If Democrats were not made to march in lock step, perhaps some of them would feel more comfortable coming forward to complain about the harmful rhetoric coming from their counterparts. But I have yet to hear a Democrat speak out against their colleagues. Thus, I have concluded the Democratic party is not to be trusted with national security on any level - not in my lifetime.

And the Democrats are not the only ones, unfortunately. As you so wisely pointed out, the media are willing accomplices in the Democrat's quest for power.

If it were not for this forum, I would feel as though I was alone in these feelings. Even with Fox, it would not be enough.

Thank you for your usual well thought out, reasoned comments.
