Edited on 04/12/2004 5:57:20 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

With Peter Ueberroth out of the race, all Republican eyes now turn toward State. Sen. Tom McClintock, and the effort by some party leaders and the Schwarzenegger campaign to get him to withdraw. The problem for Schwarzenegger is that while having McClintock out might be good for him, the process of getting him out is quite bad. In the end, Schwarzenegger might be better off simply ignoring McClintock. Here

Finally, the obsession with McClintock makes Schwarzenegger look weak. If he is such a strong candidate, why can’t he simply go out and campaign rather than worrying about who else is running?

First, McClintock isn’t just attacking Schwarzenegger. He is attacking Cruz, big time, on radio and television just about every day.

...and this from a McClintock supporter who has posted thousands of anti-Schwarzenegger posts over last three weeks, more than any other forum poster.

I'm a Schwarzenegger supporter who is all for McClintock staying in until the last week, because of the reasons stated in this article, because at this point he still has a chance (anything could happen), and because something could happen between now and then that would cause Schwarzenegger's support to decline (again, anything could happen).

Anything could happen

It certainly could. Like TM staying in just long enough to syphon off enough absentee ballot votes to ensure a bustamante win.

What a great plan.

Every poll to date has him double digits behind.

He needs to get out and now.

Call or write and let him know he's helping bustamante win and he needs to GTFO!

I still believe that Tom McClintock will probably bow out 14-21 days before the recall election is held. It would be in his best interests to do so. His political future is tied in with the future of the California GOP. He doesn't have the luxury of being a pundit, opinionator or talking head, free to opine on radio, tv or political townhalls, like FreeRepublic.

Having said that, the situation with the liberal Arnold Schwarzenegger is getting downright bizarre. The latest twist in Arnold's campaign, was to call those who disagree with him on Prop54, quote, "right-wing crazies" Nice touch of class there Arnold.

Arnold remains an embarrassment to the GOP.

I am predicting he exits by the end of the convention. He already skipped the most recent debate. Hope I am wrong.

Second, if McClintock quits, his diehard supporters on the right might lose interest in the recall and simply stay home on Election Day. That could provide Davis with the margin he needs to defeat the recall, and even if it didn’t, it wouldn’t help Schwarzenegger any on question 2.

Surprise surprise surprise. But with his 25%...he can win! (Except if Davis survives. That's a secret, tell no one)

That's what I was trying to get "DoughtyOne" to understand on another thread. I reckon it's just too complex for some to grasp.

And I explained that votes are already being cast, which wasn't important enough for you to acknowledge.

In the next four weeks between four and six percent of California's vote will likley be cast by for McClintock by absentee vote.

That doesn't matter to you, even if McClintock can't get elected.

Sadly, most Arnold supporters have tried patience and reason to explain why California Republicans of all walks should get behind Arnold and insure a win over Bustagroove. The images you have posted, showing the Arnold supporters as a pot-smoking hippie or the weird image above shows how you, and your team of distruptors, are grasping at any straw to keep the McClintock votes from jumping ship.

Oh, but it does matter to me. As I have said before, my only desire is that the Democrats loose questions 1 and 2. WHO wins question number two is a third priority with me, as long as it's a Republican. Is that too complex to understand? Do you really need instant gratification? Or are you just a tool of Hewey Hewitt, late of PBS fame!

Then, at this point, you're supporting Arnold.

It's late in the day, McClintock isn't talking to anyone but the choir, and the only candidate he's attacking is Schwarzenegger. He's going after the NUMBER TWO guy, not the NUMBER ONE guy--does he have a courtesy agreement with Bustamante?
