Are you somehow involved with the ACLU case being heard tomorrow, as some have indicated?Nah, just some Arnold trolls trying to piss me off so I'll hit them back, so they can then go slam on the abuse button... not falling for it...

As for the absentee vote in CA being 30 to 40%, that is total nonsense.[Shaking my head in disbelief]

McClintock's immediate and bigger problem seems to be the following:
Republican Voters Schwarzenegger McClintock
CA Field Poll 43% 28%
USA Survey Poll 56% 25%
CA C of C Poll 44% 23%

Heck, the voter pamphlets which contain the absentee ballot request forms are not yet in the mail. Um, I'm in Santa Clara County and I got mine yesterday in the mail.

What is your source for the statement that absentee ballots are not counted in CA unless they are needed to determine the output?
I live in Orange County. On numerous times, I have watched the local news on election night and heard reporters at the Registrar's office report that the absentee ballots were being fed into the computers for counting.
Ballots normally have quite a few office positions on them. Do you really think that someone can determine just what ballots are needed for just what office?
Something sounds fishy here. You are saying that a county registrar of voters can take it upon his own to not count ballots. According to what state law would that be legal?

I live in Riverside county and have received nothing from them yet.
I did receive the state voter information guide yesterday, and it stated you had until September 30th to requestn absentee ballot, and it has to be received back by the close on election day for it to be counted.
I didn't hear the interview, as I got to the thread late, but having heard him speak specifics last friday at a rally, at least he is providing some solutions, IMHO.

I've always thought Hannity was a lightweight. He's proving it in spades.

Oh yeah,
Absentee ballots have to be counted, and don't forget, elections aren't always about candidates only.
For example there are two referendum issues on this ballot as well.

To be honest, I heard the very same thing reported on television news broadcasts a number of times during the 2000 elections and for several days afterward. Whether it is/was true or not I don't know, but it made enough of an impression on me that I decided I will NEVER vote absentee ballot.
To: Fred Mertz
And Arnold will have half of O'Reilly's show - a full half hour. It will be good to see these shows back to back!
To: Fred Mertz
McClintock's apparently got more momentum in the past several weeks than Arnold has.Apparently you aren't aware that the exact opposite is true.

He had an attitude right out of the starting gate. Trust me on this one.
I have rarely - actually, never - heard Sean so rude. JMHO
To: Fred Mertz
Because the absentee ballots have been mailed (and mostly received) and a large percentage of conservatives votes are absentee. If someone doesn't drop out soon and people start mailing in ballots for those no longer on it in a week or so, it would NOT be good. The sooner a move is made, the better. And the voting is less than a month away for everyone else!
To: ambrose
Sorry, but Tom doesn't focus group in front of soccer moms to find the "right tone for the right audience." He's been consistent over his entire career. We know that McClintock isn't the least bit interested in actually winning over voters. Just in "being right". And superior.
What good does that do anyone?

To be precise about it, per the Secretary of State's web site, the percentage of absentee ballots in CA has been increasing each year. In the 2002 state-wide election, a total of 27.09% of the ballots were cast by mail. This is a historical high and an increase from 17.15% from 1992. In 1982, 6.51% of all ballots were absentee.
So, the number is higher than I thought and lower than you thought.

Karl Rove fought the recall from the beginning because he believes that a wounded Gray Davis or a Bustamante would be better for George Bush.
Howard Kaloogian, Chairman of the Recall Gray Davis Committee and long-time conservative activist, reports that several phone calls to the White House resulted in mocking conversations.
Not interested, said the political types. Let Davis slowly twist in the wind. Itll make our job easier in 04.
Source
He is willing to let California's economy drag down the entire country for the benefit of the '04 election of George Bush. No wonder they put up Schwarzenegger in the face of the possible election of a conservative. Arnold clearly doesn't care if he wins or not, doing virtually everything possible to aggravate his base.
Call it what you will.
