Do you have a link to that quote from Mr Birnbaum?

I would much rather jump than be burned to death. I think these people (possibly) were making their final life decision and for this, I applaud them.
It was certainly no act of cowardice. Frankly, I don't understand why people want to ignore these brave individuals.
Also, no one alive today is in a position to judge what anyone in those buildings did on that horrible, tragic day and have no right to make any sort of judgment.
The Families, of course, are entitled to any opinion - anyone else, NO!
Meg33: I choose to 'reply' to you because I saw the Never Forget slogan. It's my first time in this Forum.

"a victim of the worst single mass murder in history, still alive in the minds and memories of millions."
??in whose history? the worst single mass murder? or just the US's history: see--i'll bet tons of photo ops like this existed and do exist and we are the reason some people are jumping from buildings--horrible the way we treat each other, or should i say our governments treat us & others.
this photograph and article are horrific but honest and poignant, as is mankind--why can't we look at ourselves for what we are and what we suffer? be it beauty or pain, the jumpers/fallers last moments are not robbed by these photographs, in my OP--If I am ever captured in my last moments, especially in pain please remember me as the face of humanity, my beauty and pain. i do not think this article is inhumane either. my first reaction to these photos always was and will stay that of extreme fear, confusion, snap decision, pain, disorientation, disbelief and some kind of sick succumbing. I do not feel these people--those that were coherent--would want us to look away. I think they would want us to end their suffering by ending the suffering we inflict on each other daily--our policies as nations and as individuals.
All of these pictures along with those from past and present atrocities around the globe demand to be seen. No need to hunt down 'who they are', that's inhumane but these types of photographs must force our world to change. How much pain for how much longer will we conglomerately continue to inflict on each other?

"End the hate. ACROSS ALL BORDERS: END THE HATE." Screw that. I wholeheartedly and proudly HATE those vile animals who perpetrated this barbaric act upon my country, and any and all so-called humans who supported and cheered for them.
There is nothing whatsoever wrong with hating such absolute barbarism. It leads one to take a stand, and therefore action, against it.
The "end the HATE!" crap is nothing more than another excuse to do nothing to stop the barbarians and tyrants.
BTW, welcome to FR.

I'll never forget that horrible day. I'll never forgive the heathens like Hillary Clintoon and so many of her fellow democrats who want to politicize this tragedy to their favor."
I agree 100%. The party of the Democrats is no more. They are digging themselves a grave.
I pray they are never in power again. They are evil Communists. No morality, whatsoever.

It's nonsense on too many levels to count.
Plus, it's insulting...it implicitly draws an equivalence between us and our enemies.

I know this is somewhat off of the subject, but does anyone remember the minister who was flying out of NYC well before 9/11/01, that had a vision of 9/11.
I have dug through the archives, but with no luck finding the article.

"horrible the way we treat each other, or should i say our governments treat us & others..." News flash...Neither "our government" nor "each other" perpetrated this massacre of unarmed civilians. psychopathic, Islam-drunk terrorists did, at the behest of the religious megalomaniacs they served.
They will continue to try things like this, until we are no longer forced to share oxygen with them.
Only in their deaths, and utter defeat, will we find a temporary peace until the NEXT tyrants emerge.
So has it ever been, and so shall it ever be. Dreaming otherwise is the mark of a fool.

I suppose it's comforting to think the murdered people falling out of the buildings 'embraced' their fate and were ok with it. I have a feeling that's the exact opposite of their experience however.
well not to come off morbid here..but i woulda jumped to..figure if im going to die..might as well have fun doing it
9-11 proved 3 things to me...arabs are a pain in the butt and need to be dealt with harshly...that we cant trust anyone except britain (and being irish-american thats not easy to say lol)and 3: i will never get to base jump off the twin towers..man would that have been a rush

How much pain for how much longer will we conglomerately continue to inflict on each other? No such thing bub. Only individuals inflict anything. That many of them inflict the same thing only shows which individuals you need to go after.

Naw... just another hit and run. I think pontificating to a group of conservatives that aren't going to beat the hell out of you for it is a right-of-passage for liberals.

It is not the movie of the planes crashing into WTC that makes our eyes wet, the pics of the individual fate are what makes us sad.

I have a great fear of heights; jumping out of one of those buildings from the height that those poor people did...my worst nightmare, literally! They must have been terrified out of their minds.
The fear of falling off a ladder at your home is a different experience than falling from a great height such as out of an airplane or off a tower. At terminal velocity the wind roars in your ears like thunder. It is the air rather than the ground that dominates the experience of free fall. Even under negative circumstances free fall is all about controlling your destiny. There is an aspect of liberation to that.
