FRANK RICH: ARNOLD BETTER THAN BUSH
Tue Sep 09 2003 16:49:49 ET

NY TIMES critic Frank Rich is planning a controversial essay for Sunday's paper arguing how Arnold Schwarzenegger is a better "actor" than President Bush.

"At least Schwarzenegger is a show-business pro," Rich writes in his autumnal debut. An unauthorized early draft was obtained by DRUDGE.

Rich on storyline: "Schwarzenegger never would have signed on for a remake of "Top Gun" without first ensuring that it would have the same happy ending as the original."

Rich on casting: "Schwarzenegger never would have allowed himself to look as scared as the abandoned kid in "Home Alone" while begging the nation for cash and patience last Sunday night."

Rich on performance: "Only in America could a guy who struts in an action-hero's Hollywood costume and barks macho lines from a script pass for a plausible political leader. But if George W. Bush can get away with it, why should Arnold Schwarzenegger be pilloried for the same antics?"

Rich reviews: "As genre dialogue goes, "Hasta la vista, baby!" and "I'll be back!" are far snappier than "Dead or alive" and "Bring 'em on."

Frank Rich has intelligently chosen to live as a parasite in the one society that would tolerate his continued existence.

Kudos, Mr. Rich.

My Letter to Mr. Rich:

Mr. Rich:

You pompous ass. One might think that a New Yorker like you might have a little more sense of perspective than you have shown. It is largely because of Bill Clinton and his oversights while being "serviced" by Monica and a host of others that many of the security breaches occurred that allowed the dust, debris and body parts to fly on that terrible day two years ago tomorrow. How dare you UNJUSTLY criticize a man who has more integrity in his little toe than Bill Clinton had in his whole body!

So George Bush is an actor for putting on a flight costume and supporting the troops, and shaking EVERY HAND of over 5000 members of our men and women in uniform? Then why wasn't Bill Clinton an actor for staging that beach scene in Normandy or for pretending to be sad when he noticed the camera at Ron Brown's funeral (three seconds before he had been having a good guffaw). Bill Clinton had a lot of reason to act, being that he LOATHED the military.

So George Bush was looking scared like the Home Alone kid? I don't recall you mentioning the same when Bill Clinton looked absolutely TERRIFIED when he was surrounded on all sides by a seemingly adoring audience in Africa. You don't suppose he was nervous around all of those blacks do you (oh, that's right, only Republicans are racist)? George Bush has more poise and class than your boy Bill ever dreamed of having.

So George Bush is supposed to insure that there is a happy ending to the Iraq mess? Why was it that Bill was allowed a pass on contributing to the unhappy beginning of this mess, and why wasn't he criticized when he lobbed all those missiles at that aspirin factory (to distract us from Monica's testimony)? And why was it that moving, or talking about moving against Iraq was fine under Bill Clinton but is "terrible" under George Bush? So it's getting untidy while George Bush is cleaning up Bill's mess, which led to the Twin Towers being knocked down and human body parts raining down? You are criticizing the wrong guy.

People like you, who give aid and comfort to our enemies the terrorists and who hate America almost as much as they do are despicable. The only difference between you and them, as far as I'm concerned, is that while they are doing their damage with bombs and violence, you are doing yours with pen and paper. Your ink might as well be the blood of your fellow New Yorkers who died.

Sincerely,

John Fields

He doesn't look scared to me. By the way, I had a hard time finding any photos of Bush on the carrier using google's search. Hmm....

As I recall, that "scared abandoned kid" bashed the bad guys good and came out on top.

Frank Rich is obviously an intelligent(and sometimes, funny)man! It's all the more unfortunate that his perceptions are hopelessly clouded by that disease that afflicts so many New Yorkers,LIBERALISM(SOCIALISM)!!I don't know what it takes to get these people to be proud of their citizenship? These are the same people that looked the other way during the eight-years of BeelzeBubba's tawdry behavior and dubious(as we ALL know now)adventures in Foreign Policy!!!
