Welcome to the Finest!

"This will be the best security for maintaining our liberties.
A nation of well-informed men who have been taught to know
and prize the rights which God has given them cannot be enslaved.
It is in the religion of ignorance that tyranny begins." --Benjamin Franklin

Good morning Aqua. I recently read excerpts of George Washington's prayer book he wrote and kept. It was beautiful. I hope to find this book some where and purchase it. I wish I could pray like that.

Good morning Spookie. The way they spoke back then is a little difficult for me to understand but when I grasp what they're saying it is so eloquent.

Ally just wrote an awesome essay on that quote. Woohoo! My favorite quote ever.

I know what you mean Aqua, yet surprisingly, his prayers were pretty easy to read. If I ever find it, I'll buy two copies. :) One for us both.

Reading works from that time take a quiet room and deep concentration for me, something that is rare in this home.

I remember that! Here's another good quote by him.

"The Constitution only gives people the right to pursue happiness. You have to catch it yourself." --Benjamin Franklin

How thoughtful! I have an 'Eulogy On Death Of Washington' that was found in my great great etc...grandfather's scrapbook that I posted on another thread one time. I may post it here one day on an appropriate thread.

Good morning Aquamarine and all FReepers. Very good post and as Ben would say, "Well done is better than well said."

It came at an appropriate time for Southeastern Pennsylvanians. We are in the process of carefully moving our beloved Liberty Bell to a new (nearby) location.
