By Jeremy Lovell MANCHESTER (Reuters) - A researcher says many young gay are flouting safe sex and trying to catch HIV/AIDS in their search for identity. But Europe's biggest HIV and AIDS charity dismissed the claim, saying there was no evidence to support it and that it would only serve to further demonise gay men. Melissa Parker of Brunel University said on Tuesday the booming gay sex pub, club and sauna scene in London had been growing since the mid-1990s, with unprotected sex with multiple partners the rule. Catching the AIDS precursor HIV was not just a risk, it was a goal, she told reporters at the annual meeting of the British Association for the Advancement of Science. "Being diagnosed with HIV is a badge of recognition of being truly gay," she said. "There is a sizeable number of young gay men new to the gay scene, exploring their sexuality but wanting to belong. HIV is seen as a bonus." The combinations of therapies now available for people with HIV might even have exacerbated the problem. "They have made HIV less frightening," Parker said. Admitting she had no figures to support her claim, Parker said her research consisted of several years of interviews with a large number of sexually active gay men. But Will Nutland, head of gay men's health promotion at the Terrence Higgins Trust, said the research was unreliable. "Her assumptions will only serve to further demonise gay men," he said. "Her comment that unprotected sex with multiple partners is the rule, rather than the exception is not backed up by evidence," he said. "On-going surveys of gay men's sexual behaviour since 1997 show that most men use condoms most of the time with most of their partners." He said that while levels of unprotected sex have increased, gay men still viewed HIV as a serious medical condition. The Terrence Higgins Trust, named after one of the first people to die of AIDS in Britain, is the leading HIV and AIDS charity in the UK and the largest in Europe. |

"Gay men seeking aids", GOOD.

Europe's biggest HIV and AIDS charity dismissed the claim, saying there was no evidence to support it and that it would only serve to further demonise gay menThese Euroweenies are morons. There is a subculture within militant homosexuality which promotes catching AIDS and spreading it to other disease fans and even unsuspecting partners.
It's called Bug Chasing. Google this one up with caution.

These bug chasers are morons...but they are dangerous morons. They are definitely a small minority of the gay community, so it does not help to make it seem bigger than it is, just as it makes no sense for the gay community to deny its existence.
The fundamental problem is that 1) These people are idiots.
2) They are being treated at the expense of others (prescription drug benefit/medicaid)
3) If they had to pay for their drug cocktails...they would not be seeking "the bug".
And the fundamental risk they present is the possibility that they are essentially petri dishes breeding resistant strains...which is a threat to everyone in the future.

I was referring to the E-weenies, but hey, the bugchasers are morons too.
Poorman drove truck over-the-road for many years; he often had to go to places where he was in close contact with the sleazier elements.
He is not surprised by this latest fad/craze/perversion.

Which is why AIDS is still being spread....

The fundamental problem is that ...Also there's a 4) Gays threw their lot in with the left years ago, and now their sense of morality is utterly destroyed*:
Thanks to the behavior of a small minority of gay men in the Seattle area, syphilis is at extremely high levels, HIV infections are spiking, cases of gonorrhea have doubled, and cases of chlamydia have tripled. What is the gay men's health movement doing about the problem? The Stranger asked local gay health leaders, and concluded they're making excuses and ducking tough questions as the problem gets much, much worse.
- Eli Sanders, The Immoral Minority, The Stranger 6/5/2003 (WARNING: some disgusting bits, but mostly it's the story of a train wreck in progress.)
*IMO gay sex isn't immoral per se, but it inherently requires one to be much more careful. By latching on to the left, gays have abandoned any sense of personal responsibility for their risky lifestyle, and this abandonment of morality is what's killing them.

...young gay are flouting safe sex and trying to catch HIV/AIDS in their search for identity.I think it's more nefarious than that. These fags know that once they are diagnosed with aids they will be coddled for the rest of their (hopefully) short lives.

What can one say when such positive news arises? My suggestion is the same one I have for people who smoke; if you are a 2 pack a day man, increase that to 5 or 6 packs. The sooner you're dead from lung cancer, the better for me and my children.
P.S. No one is dying of from HIV anywhere. Especially Africe, oooooohhhhhhhh, the doomed Dark Continent. Scary! HIV is a harmless retrovirus. So one last time, HIV does NOT cause AIDs, and AIDs is NOT a sexually transmittable disease.
Pretty remarkable that a minute retrovirus can actually select only one gender unlike its brethern viruses! The AIDs crises is the biggest sucker play of all time.

Excellent article, and a superb example of government pissing away money on ineffective programs for special interests. Everybody feels good, but the results are only that.

Well, the gay that blasts the study about unprotected sex and bug chasers says....
On-going surveys of gay men's sexual behaviour since 1997 show that most men use condoms most of the time with most of their partners."
He said that while levels of unprotected sex have increased, gay men still viewed HIV as a serious medical condition.
"MOST men use condoms MOST of the time with MOST of their partners".
Sounds like confirmation of her study to me.

Oops, I should have been clearer. I was commenting about the article jennyp put up the link to.
The linked article supports the "Gay Men Said Seeking HIV" article. It also details how worthless several "gay men's health organizations" have been in stopping the spread of STDs, and how King County (think Seattle) has been giving these organizations lots of money with little or nothing being returned.
In fact, the returns are negative. STDs are taking a dramatic rise in Seattle.
Sorry for the confusion.

Have to wonder why the American Psychiatric Asso. removed homosexuality from its list of mental disorders. I'd think this would prove it belongs on that list.

Which retrovirus might that be? Can't be HIV, because I know that both males and females can and have contracted it.
