There's a small but vocal contingent here who jumps at any opportunity to inject race into any discussion related to crime.

Actually this was a specific crime. An apparent drive-by shooting. Since the vast majority of organized street gangs and gang murders are from gangs made of of minorities, race has a lot to do with it. It's hard to discuss brutal drive-by gang shootings without people bringing up race. It's seems to have a lot to do with these types of crimes. Or should everyone just ignore it?

In the LA basin, the vast majority of gangs, either by sheer number of members or by number of gangs, have nothing to do with race. The basis of their membership is cultural. They are Hispanic and can principally trace their ancestory to Mexico. Most (over 85%), are the consequence of illegal immigration.

We are generally Hispanic and White in the Valley, not a whole lot of blacks except in Bakersfield and Fresno.

The larger question is why the media, the gun-grabbers, and the surburban soccer moms don't really care about black-on-black shootings.

The surburban soccer moms are surrounded by other soccer moms. They probably know black soccer moms as well, and so they don't care about the poor black people shooting themselves. Actually I don't care either when the great unwashed shoot eachother, unless some innocent baby gets a bullet in the crossfire. So I think people don't care about black-black shooting unless say it happens between two filthy rich blacks in an upscale area. That's more a class issue than anything else.

I RESERVE MY WORST VITROL FOR THE MEDIA. If they didn't show the civil rights activists' (who are usually the gun grabbers), they'd never have an audience. Here in NYC, the DA threw a black man in jail for a weekend for shooting a man about to attack his son sleeping in bed. The man was crawling through the window and he plugged the bastard. What made it is worse was that the man owned the gun legally and was a Desert Storm vet. There is no news story in a same race incident. It makes for great news, and stirring up that foul, dinosaur Jesse Jackson. As if black and white people are incapable of just being mean to eachother. The media will turn anything between black and white a three ring circus.

Besides showing black-black crime causes liberals to get big erections over all the new government program needed to help those 'poor black people'.

It may be cultural, but let me tell you, when it hits the fan, the descriptions going out on police frequencys are not cultural descriptions. They are generally clear physical descriptions.

Weirder yet, and totally off-topic, on ABC 7 news they had Simon and Viilaraigosa discussing "this week in the recall race" and they ended the segment with each of their opinions of the "high" and "low" points of the past 7 days.

 

These statements must've been pre-discussed because graphics came up on the screen next to them as they -- I guess the word would be "recited" -- them... however Simon must've changed his mind post-rehearsal.

 

He said the low point was Davis insulting Arnie's accent -- but the words on the screen said Davis signing the II license bill.

For what it's worth in my neck of the woods (central California) that main descriptors are Hispanic male, white male or black male. Two refer to skin color and one to culture.

In California, on state government forms, the traditional term white has been replaced by the term non Hispanic white

Actually, mexicans with guns from what I understand. I can't confirm, but have heard that now that the illegals can get drivers licenses, they can purchase firearms too. Is there any truth to this? If so, I guess all Californians can thank Davis for potentially arming infiltrators.
