Schwarzenegger Promises Workers' Comp Reform

Republican gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger said, if elected governor, he would not sign a budget that did not include plans to reform California's workers' compensation system, according to an article in the San Diego Union Tribune.

Schwarzenegger vowed to stand up to anti-business legislators and 'Sacramento's job-killing philosophy of overtax, overspend and overburden.'

Speaking before the board of directors of the California Chamber of Commerce in Dana Point Sept. 5, Schwarzenegger also said he would fight for litigation reform and regulatory reform to prevent jobs from being driven out of the state.

Schwarzenegger said that, if elected, he would immediately call a special legislative session on workers' compensation, which would have bills that are enacted take effect earlier than a usual legislative session.

He said he would focus on reining in the excessive costs driving the system, including specifically defining what constitutes permanent disability, setting limits on doctor visits, and the creation of a medical panel for reviewing disability claims.

But Schwarzenegger touted leadership in lieu of specific details.

Schwarzenegger received the chamber's endorsement, the first ever in their 100-year history for a constitutional office.

Arnold wants to and will make California more business friendly, to keep and bring back businesses, if elected, UNLIKE Davis and Bustamante, who want to continue to tax businesses even more and drive them out of the state.

Arnold, as a businessman knows what businesses need and how to make CA business friendly, that is why businesses and the CA Chamber of Commerce endorse him.
