Rescind the Congressional Pay Raise Act" (HR 31)
Conservative Alerts ^ | Mon, 08 Sep 2003 | Congressman Jeff Miller (R-FL)

Posted on 09/08/2003 1:51:28 PM PDT by anymouse

ISSUE: Do you think Congress deserves *another* pay raise? Or should we perhaps repeal their last one, and stop automatic pay raises in the future?

Congressman Jeff Miller (R-FL) has introduced a bill to cut congressional pay by 3.1%. The legislation is in response to President Bush's decision earlier this year to freeze part of the pay raise for federal employees.

"How can we face our constituents when we allow ourselves to impose this pay increase?" Miller said. "Americans everywhere are doing their part to help win the war on terror. Congress must do the same and refuse the 3.1 percent increase set for next year."

Miller's legislation will roll back this year's pay increase for all Members of Congress. Miller was also part of an attempt last year to block the automatic pay increase for Members of Congress.

ACTION ITEM: Not surprisingly, this proposal only has 24 co-sponsors right now. The problem is, Congressmen aren't hearing any kind of unified outcry regarding their automatic pay increases, so they think they can get away with it year after year. They don't even have to vote themselves more money anymore!

Let's do something about that. Go to our site below to send your a message to your Congressman NOW, urging him or her to support Rep. Miller's "Rescind the Congressional Pay Raise Act" (HR 31):

NOTE: This bill will actually nullify the recent pay increase and eliminate automatic pay adjustments for Members of Congress. Be sure to forward this e-mail to everyone you know who wants to help "trim the budget" by trimming the payraises on Capitol Hill. Thank you!

They better cut deeper than that.

I agree with Congressman Miller. However, I know the history of Congress' backdoor pay raises. His bill will never get a hearing, much less ever appear on the floor of the House for a vote. This issue is one of the lesser ones that I intend to run on.

Suggestion: Get rid of the elected official royal status. Lets pay them well while in office and remove all their perks. No more retirement, no perdiums, no allowances for anything, make them pay into the Social Secruity system and let them claim their legit "office holding" expenses on their income taxes. Make them a part of society where they are treated like a one person business while in office. Donation will be considered as income and taxed accordingly. Make the same rules & laws they force on us apply to them as well.

Freeped and sent to numerous friends and acquaintances with the hope they'll send an email to their congressional legislator.

Won't work. Besides, most donations have already been taxed once. When I make a donation, I've already paid tax. Plus, you will get "Geraldine Ferraro" campaign financing to dodge your suggestion.

Basically, Ms. ferraro bought a building from someone and 6 weeks later sold it back to the same guy. She then took the money and put it into her campaign avoiding all campaign laws because it was her "own" money. I imagine the guy also got a capital loss deduction. Cute isn't it ?

Dear taxman, another reason to get rid of the IRS.

In case you don't remember, Ms. Ferraro ran for vice president in 1984 with Walter Mondale.

The real problem is that the Federal Government has become a "Royal Aristocracy" the likes of which would turn Louis XIV and his court green with envy.

Politicans, like diapers, need to be changed FRom time to time, and for the same reasons.
