ISSUE: Do you think Congress deserves *another* pay raise? Or should we perhaps repeal their last one, and stop automatic pay raises in the future?
Congressman Jeff Miller (R-FL) has introduced a bill to cut congressional pay by 3.1%. The legislation is in response to President Bush's decision earlier this year to freeze part of the pay raise for federal employees.
"How can we face our constituents when we allow ourselves to impose this pay increase?" Miller said. "Americans everywhere are doing their part to help win the war on terror. Congress must do the same and refuse the 3.1 percent increase set for next year."
Miller's legislation will roll back this year's pay increase for all Members of Congress. Miller was also part of an attempt last year to block the automatic pay increase for Members of Congress.
ACTION ITEM: Not surprisingly, this proposal only has 24 co-sponsors right now. The problem is, Congressmen aren't hearing any kind of unified outcry regarding their automatic pay increases, so they think they can get away with it year after year. They don't even have to vote themselves more money anymore!
Let's do something about that. Go to our site below to send your a message to your Congressman NOW, urging him or her to support Rep. Miller's "Rescind the Congressional Pay Raise Act" (HR 31):

NOTE: This bill will actually nullify the recent pay increase and eliminate automatic pay adjustments for Members of Congress. Be sure to forward this e-mail to everyone you know who wants to help "trim the budget" by trimming the payraises on Capitol Hill. Thank you!

Won't work. Besides, most donations have already been taxed once. When I make a donation, I've already paid tax. Plus, you will get "Geraldine Ferraro" campaign financing to dodge your suggestion.
Basically, Ms. ferraro bought a building from someone and 6 weeks later sold it back to the same guy. She then took the money and put it into her campaign avoiding all campaign laws because it was her "own" money. I imagine the guy also got a capital loss deduction. Cute isn't it ?
Dear taxman, another reason to get rid of the IRS.
