Freeper Views Interview Series: ChewedGum
Patriot Paradox
Posted on 09/08/2003 7:55:21 AM PDT by sonsofliberty2000
The latest interview in the Conservative Views Interview Series is now up at Patriot Paradox. The interview was with ChewedGum, and here are some highlights:
Should we use the creation of a Palestinian state as a negotiating tool to ease tensions in Israel and if not what should we negotiate with? Are the Palestinians in your opinion ready to govern themselves?
I don't believe in negotiation with terrorists. You fight terror with deadly force. Once the terror is done, then we can discuss a state for the Palestinians. The Palestinian leadership (including the terror organizations) is short-circuiting the future of all the people by their methods. They are not governing and probably cannot except by corruption and fear. They kill citizens suspected of being informants or Israeli sympathizer without a trial. I do believe that there are leaders among the people who are capable of governing these people. I pray that they can find their way into positions of leadership.
What mistakes do you feel past administrations made, if any, that led us to the events of September 11th?
I think the evidence points to the fact that the prior administration was all talk and very little action. They failed to act on numerous opportunities to deal with Bin Laden, and most of that was due to fear of public opinion if they should fail (or succeed.) The actions they did take were those that were designed not to be successful but to be visible. Cannon was wrong when they proclaimed 'Image is Everything!' Image without substance is merely an elaborate lie.
How would you describe yourself?
If no one knew the truth and I had no moral qualms about lying, I would describe myself as 6'6", 180 lbs, full head of hair, perfect teeth and blue eyes. (I do have blue eyes.)

The CVIS is an series of interviews with Freepers to help us understand where our compatriots are coming from. Interviews will be posted twice weekly and we hope this helps us unite and stir up the conservative base. If you have a suggestion of a Freeper who merits interviewing, let me know by Freepmail. Suggesting your own self is perfectly acceptable.

What is the biggest issue you see at this time for Conservatives in the US? How would you resolve it?Unity. Every single individual has their own "brand" of conservatism. People argue violently on extremely minor issues on Free Republic. We don't have to agree on every issue and it annoys me considerably when I see people proclaim that they won't support candidate X because he is just not conservative enough for them. If someone is truly a RINO, then by all means withhold your vote. However, if someone is fairly conservative but doesn't share your views on a few issues, having them in office is still better than their liberal competition.
Welcome to the California Recall election.

For an excellent article on the Palestinian situation check out this article by John Derbyshire, from the National Review, called
Why Don't I Care About The Palestinians?Gives a clear explanation regarding the Palestinians you don't seem to find in the NY Times.

Thanks for the link. Excellent article. Your welcome. Rather thought provoking, isn't it? I agree with most of what Derbyshire has to say, although he can, at times, ramble on.

I think I have to agree with expulsion too. Israel will never have peace until the source of the problems is removed from it's borders. I can just imagine whatan independent "Palestine" would do.

I can just imagine whatan independent "Palestine" would do. They'd stagnate and complain, then blame the U.S. for their situation...just like every other Arab country.

My favorite quote, from the last paragraph: "Being Arabs, they are incapable of constructing a rational polity, so their future is probably hopeless whatever happens."

Number 4 undoubtedly has the UNRWA bureaucrats drooling, but as with number 1, it's hard to see what's in it for the rest of us. Aren't we handing over enough of our money in welfare payments to our own people? This is the point that gets to me, the US funds most of what they have and they still hate us.

Excellent viewpoints and thought provoking questions; I too have found locking horns with someone who espouses a 3rd party candadate frustrating when the risk of getting a liberal agenda elected can be very real if we allow ourselves a sense of apathy.

I remember brushing my daughters hair before school and wrestling with the little elastic things to put their hair in ponies. High pony, low pony, side ponies, one or both.
They were so sweet and patient while I fumbled with my crippled hands. Then they would run out giggling and laughing with their dog Uncle Pete tagging along to the bus stop.
I miss those days.
