This "Mahdi," along with the "Prophet Jesus," will lead the believers to victory over the infidels.
If this Mahdi is accompanied by an entity calling himself "The Prophet" Jesus rather than God the Son....than he is a liar and in reality anti-Christ...which of course shouldn't be too surprising given their fruits ..so far

The last guy who claimed he was the Mahdi was the clown who caused so much trouble in the Sudan in the late 19th century -- attacked and killed 'Chinese' Gordon in Khartoum and sent up an early day Islamic state. Said state succumbed a decade or so later to the Brits under Lord Kitchener -- the campaign so nicely described by (later Sir) Winston Churchill in The River War, the enemy immortalized in Kipling's Fuzzy Wuzzy.

Is bin Laden the 'Mahdi', the 'awaited enlightened one'? No. He is 'cruddy', 'the stinky one, who defecates in his pants'.

This "Mahdi," along with the "Prophet Jesus," will lead the believers to victory over the infidels. That is a little mind-boggling. Do they suppose that Jesus, a Jew who loved His countrymen, will help Mahdi attack Israel?

"If the claim were believable to the Islamic world, then the U.S. could no longer claim to be fighting terrorism alone. Indeed, it would become a global religious conflict." Indeed. Has it ever been anything else?

They got this wrong, The Mahdi and Jesus give a sermon in mexico, Not mecca. From there they plan to invade the great satan. Of course it's not the Jesus we all know and love and the invasion fails miserably when they can't find water at the border crossing and have to follow the beacon to the INS watering hole. After resting at the watering hole for a bit, Mahdi and Jesus discover 20 pounds of pot, strap it on their backs and head out again detirmined to get on with the invasion. They are hounded and tracked by buzzards and coyotes but manage to make it into texas where they are hunted by the border guards and angry drug smugglers.
You can follow this story on Fox in the fall. 'The adventures of Mahdi and the Mexican'

Every Arab charismatic leader who advocates overthrowing the West is probably The Next Mahdi.

If the claim were believable to the Islamic world, then the U.S. could no longer claim to be fighting terrorism alone. Indeed, it would become a global religious conflict. It's already a global religious conflict. All you have to do is listen to the terrorists themselves, who wreak their terror in the name of Islam, or to the tacit support given them by the "silent" Muslims who will not take a position condemning them.
The idea that this is a war on terrorism is just airbrushing for the faint of heart. This is mainly a war on Islamic terrorism, since it is they who are warring against us. Bush won't phrase it that way, but it's obvious to anybody who pays any attention.
Furthermore, until we take our blinders off about the true nature of the conflict, we will not be able to defeat it.

The video raises the question of whether bin Laden sees himself as this Mahdi We've got plenty of people here in America who see themselves as various exhalted spiritual personalities, and many of them reside in rooms with rubber furniture.

If the claim were believable to the Islamic world, then the U.S. could no longer claim to be fighting terrorism alone. Indeed, it would become a global religious conflict. This would be an entirely welcome change.
The rest of the world could acknowledge the true nature of the conflict and begin to fight it more effectively.

"Al Mahdi" is supposed to appear at a time when Muslim believers are severely oppressed in every corner of the world. Well then I guess he has to wait...
Powell with Saudi Prince Bandar...

Bush with his pal Saudi Price Bandar in Crawford...
Theese "Muslim believers" don't look too "oppressed" to me.

"Al Mahdi" is supposed to appear at a time when Muslim believers are severely oppressed in every corner of the world. He will fight the oppressors, unite the Muslims, bring peace and justice to the world, rule over the Arabs, and lead a prayer in Mecca at which Jesus will be present. I am constantly amazed at the fact the Muslims don't/can't even recognize who their oppressors are. I am convinced that the wealthy ruling families in the Middle-East encourage hatred of the West to deflect jealousy and anger over their oppression of their own people.

Frank Herbert's Dune is about the Mahdi and jihad against the empire.
It's an old story....Farah should not be surprised, nor should the CIA.

Wow. binnie boy really is Manson with oil money, isn't he? I continue to wonder whether bin Laden has a crazy messiah complex...or whether he's cynically using religion to attract followers and consolidate power. Any thoughts?
