Alright. Reminding the Rats that this is a long and determined war, and that we are taking the war to them, and the front is Iraq.

I know, and John Loftus has been saying its all there for some time now.

the terrorists have cited Beirut and Somalia..
2 years ago I told congress and the country that the war on terror would be lengthy and difficult...
Iraq is now the central front and there they must be defeated.
This will take time and sacrifice.
we will spend what is necessary for freedom and to make our nation more secure

I'm so glad he's explaining where the attacks are taking place, and telling about the areas that are progressing well toward freedom. (Read the papers & you think the whole country is in chaos.)
Oh wow...I cna't type fast enough...He's doing a great job! He's reminding us that all along he was honest about wht this effort would take...and that the aim, the goal, all aong, is our own protection against terrorists.

Plus there was the "leak" of what the speech would consist of and there was speculation (which I dismissed immediately) that President Bush would start backing off any WMD claims and "softening" the charge.
Nonsense, hence my noting with approval his flat statement.
To: cajungirl
They want to shake the will of the civilized world. In the past, the terrorists have cited the examples of Beirut and Somalia, claiming that if you inflict harm on Americans, we will run from a challenge.

What you never hear:
"When will we be out of Korea?"
"When will we be out of Germany?"
"How much has Kosovo cost?"

Seems reasonable that "terror" and "terrorism" would be mentioned frequently, since terror and terrorism are the reasons for what we have done in Afghanistan and Iraq.

"They have killed civilians of UN... bombed Jordanian embassy... murdered a respected cleric and 100 muslims at prayer ... (insert necessary "peaceful teachings of Islam" BS here)... two years ago I told Congress and the country that the war on terror would be a lengthy war... fought on many fronts in many places.... enemies of freedom are making a desperate stand in Iraq.... we will do what is necessary, we will spend what is necessary, to promote freedom and make our own nation more secure.... we have done it before, lifting up Japan and Germany, standing by them... rebuilt... effort repayed many times over... we help Iraq in the same spirit, for their sake and our own. Three objectives: destroying terrorists, enlisting other nations aid, helping Iraqis build their own future..."

Much was made by reporterettes today about Bush's speech being "only 15 minutes." He says more in that time than Clinton ever did in his looooooooooooong speeches.
To: cajungirl
Watch for a bump in his poll #'s. All president's poll #'s tank in August when they are away, I think.
Even Reagan, who was the most admired of our presidents, averaged around 53% approval #'s.

I think it's pretty funny...like the other day when Kerry announced and they were running their "Fox facts" under him as he talked. (I am not making these up.) "Speaks French...voted against Gulf War I...voted against B-2 bomber...voted against Robert Bork...member of Skull and Bones..." I love Fox News.
