LOS ANGELES - Gov. Gray Davis signed a bill granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants and told cheering supporters, many of them waving flags from Central American countries, that they should be able to drive to jobs.
The signing Friday prompted recall candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger and other critics to accuse the governor of flip-flopping in a ploy to win over Hispanic voters as he fights to keep his job ...
The license initiative, which takes effect Jan. 1, overrides a law passed in a wave of anti-immigration measures in the early 1990s and reflects the growing clout of the Hispanic community.
It will allow illegal immigrants to obtain licenses by submitting a federal taxpayer identification number or other state-approved form of identification instead of a Social Security number.

Does anyone out there really understand what Governor Gray Davis has done? With one fell swipe of his pen, he has single-handedly abrogated the international border of California, and with it the sovereignty of the United States of America. By signing the bill granting divers licenses to illegal immigrants, Davis has essentially assured a flood of illegal immigrants to take advantage of this liberally inspired politically correct nightmare.
Now, Im not against granting drivers licenses to immigrants legal ones that is. But what Governor Davis has selfishly done is to grant legal Californian and with it US citizenship to anyone who shows up, wanting a drivers license. Of course, his motivation for doing so is to suddenly have two million extra voters beholden to him so they can save his job in the upcoming recall election. But, by so doing he has recklessly swung the door open, and provided aid, and comfort to any, and all al-Qaida, Hamas, Hezbollah, Mujahadeen, or Islamic Jihad terrorists, who just happen to magically show up in California!
In his selfish, and treasonous actions, Davis has sold his nation down the river for his own narcissistic ends. This is not a minor thing! It doesnt just destroy Californias sovereignty it destroys the sovereignty of the United States government, and exposes all of us to a deadly influx of fanatical Islamic fundamentalist murderers who dance with delight whenever they kill us. As loathe as I personally am to advocating that the US government step in to fix anything perpetrated by some wayward state, or local government, in this case they must do so as speedily as possible!
The US Supreme Court should hold an emergency session to vacate this illegal, and potentially disastrous state law from taking affect as a case of state law usurping federal law. Then, Tom Ridge should send federal marshals to all of Californias state offices, and prevent any illegal aliens from obtaining legal US status. The US borders should then be sealed and closed at least temporarily. And finally, but by no means, least importantly federal marshals should go in to Governor Daviss office and arrest him for sedition. Then they should place him in a federal prison until after the recall election officially throws him out in the street, and indict him for treason against the United States government!

I couldn't agree more. With a stroke of a pen(Was it a BIC or a Sharpie or a crayon?), Gub 2face has placed our state and national populations at a much higher risk of domestic attacks than ever before.
God Help Us. Obviuosly, this "governor" could care less. It is more important , in his opinion, that the produce get picked and the illegal kids get to school on time.
Welcome to the Twilight Zone. Rod Serling couldn't have written a stranger tale.

At the very least, there should be a legal challenge
to this illegal diatribe.

The true purpose of this move is to flood California with more Mexican citizens to vote in California elections. The driver licenses become the ticket for non-citizens to vote. It may be illegal but illegal immigrants break the law by their very presence so who will stop more lawbreaking? Nobody is verifying the citizenship of voters now that we have "motor voter" registration laws.
It will insure Democrat election victories in perpetuity.
This was a goal of the Clintons and Al Gore who presided over the greatest influx of legal and illegal immigration in the history of the United States during their eight years in power in Washington.

At the very least the California Driver's license is going to have to be modified so that the citizenship of the bearer is clearly stated and the cards for Non-U.S. citizens must be clearly marked, thus making them useless for voter identification.
What a total, disgusting, nauseating mess.

If the Bush administration had any guts, which they don't, the Secretary of Homeland Security and the Attorney General would call a press conference to announce that they have ordered all airline terminals in California to refuse to accept the California drivers license as valid identification for the boarding of aircraft. Further, that all California residendents wanting to board an aircraft would be required to show a passport or other valid proof of US citizenship or residency in order to board an aircraft. This one action would bring the roof down on Gray Davis and company. Sadly, I doubt that Bush has the guts to take such a step.

Great post. In a sane country and society the course of events that you outlined would happen. It is extremely unfortunate (well worse than unfortunate but I can't seem to come up with the right word) that we have "leaders" in government who belong in an insane asylum not in positions of power.

What Davis has done is to make American citizenship worthless. What was formerly seen as a privilege is now a meaningless formality. Davis' action has also made a mockery of the airport security rule of having to show a picture ID to purchase a ticket. This state is finished.

You are absolutely correct! I wish the IRS could somehow get involved. In their rules, they state that people CANNOT use Tax Identification Numbers as identification--they are used for tax purposes only. I hope the federal government recognizes this illegal action and does something about it.

For this I would support a constitutional amendment. No one votes without proof of citizenship. That means a passport, birth certificate, etc.

It will insure Democrat election victories in perpetuity. If that is true, then why are so many Republicans (including George Bush) encouraging illegal immigration?
To: AL Perrin
And don't the illegals also get free medical care and free education?
Good grief. I move we petition the government to kick California out of the United States of America. Sooner or later the taxpayers of the other 49 will be paying for this nonsense.
