Poll Names McClintock as Winner of the Debate
State Senator Tom McClintock came out on top in a poll that gauged public reaction to Wednesday's candidate debate.
A News10/SurveyUSA poll found that 30 percent of California voters felt McClintock won the debate. Twenty-two percent of those questioned said Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante was number one, while 12 percent named Peter Ueberroth as the winner. Arianna Huffington was favored by nine percent of those surveyed, while three percent said Peter Camejo won.
As evidence that the election is still very much up for grabs, the survey found 24 percent of voters either undecided about the winner of the debate or with no favorite.
The poll showed that Arnold Schwarzenegger's decision to skip the debate may have been costly. Fifty-five percent of voters felt it was the wrong thing to do, while 37 percent approved of the actor's absence. Eight percent had no opinion.
According to the survey, Gov. Gray Davis' half-hour appearance prior to the debate may not have improved his chances of avoiding recall. About a third of those surveyed, 36 percent, said the question-and-answer session caused their opinion of Davis to fall. Seventeen percent came away from the telecast with a better impression of the governor, while 46 percent said their opinion was unchanged.

The poll questioned 1,444 registered California voters in the hours immediately following the debate. Margin of error for the survey is %.1 percent.

Fortunately, I am three streets west of both of the houses they occupy and I've not heard their music! From what I've heard (neighborhood gossip) they are quiet, which leads the immediate neighbors to suspect they're dealing drugs. LOL!
You have nailed what made the recall so popular in this heavly liberal state. Its like the old joke about what you call a Democrat who got mugged last night...a Republican.
And if their base is so stupid it doesn't even know how to vote correctly what does that tell you?!
Alright, I bet you think this is pretty funny...but its not. The Democrats have a really unfair situation that has reached crisis...no epidemic proportions. How to dumb down the public enough to vote for Democrats without dumbing them so far down they can't figure out how.
Although I agree tha if Tom starts making a stronger showing, that the conservatives (myself included) will start switching from Arnold to Tom...
...but Arnold down to 5%? Come on, he will get a lot more then that from just the cross over Democrats.
He's a great guy, that is obvious to those of us who follow the issues. He needs to reach the average Joe and Jan SixPack who don't...and I believe they respond to a happy, self-assured person.
rd.
However... As one who has experienced the everyday disheartening experience of being an elected and having to sit through endless hours of meetings with negative bureaucrats AND even negative constituents with nothing but liberal bullchit on their lips... it can subconsciously destroy your good "posittude," dude!!!
You get so outraged, day after day and are constantly wondering why the rational conservative base that supported you in the election campaign don't show up during the dreary proceedings of the process. So, you go out and make a speech to try to "wake them up" by describing the outrageous reality and all that happens is that you discourage them, instead.
You are coached to "keep telling 'em how great things are going to be if they elect/re-elect you" and all the while, you know you aren't Bill Clinton and honestly have a hard time throwing that "smile switch" back on through compartmentalism. But you must!!!
If you don't, you're just throwing the "Oh Chit" switch in people's minds and it works against you, BIG TIME!!!
Niaevety(sp) can be a huge help the first time you run for office. Experience can be a killer to being a good campaigner, unless you're a good actor and constantly remember theatric techniques and to use them to win.
Knowing the truth of the situation can really fatigue a person and is intensely hard to conceal from the voters. Just ask George Herbert Walker Bush about how he kept looking at his watch in his debate with Perot and Clinton!!!
Little things mean a lot, especially when you're under the pressure of TV cameras and even the people conducting the debate are posing loaded, slanted questions.
I believe that they're based on congressional districts.
True, but there's a good chance a minority of registered voters will actually vote. So it's very possible that these 27% represent the majority of likely voters.
That's exactly the point. Tom didn't get anything done. He's not been able to do anything in his official position, and he didn't do anything to get the recall.
Arnold is right - what the state needs is leadership. Issa showed more leadership that Tom ever has. A leader needs some charisma and some drive. Tom doesn't have it, and he downplays the importance.
Well, boy don't ever throw one of them flyin "eff's," cause they're a boomerang, buddy! Out here the D's have cluster "eff's" in their governing technique's.
I assume that the expression "eff" is short-hand in your case to mean sincere, hard-working effort, right?
