Poll Names McClintock as Winner of the Debate

State Senator Tom McClintock came out on top in a poll that gauged public reaction to Wednesday's candidate debate.

A News10/SurveyUSA poll found that 30 percent of California voters felt McClintock won the debate. Twenty-two percent of those questioned said Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante was number one, while 12 percent named Peter Ueberroth as the winner. Arianna Huffington was favored by nine percent of those surveyed, while three percent said Peter Camejo won.

As evidence that the election is still very much up for grabs, the survey found 24 percent of voters either undecided about the winner of the debate or with no favorite.

The poll showed that Arnold Schwarzenegger's decision to skip the debate may have been costly. Fifty-five percent of voters felt it was the wrong thing to do, while 37 percent approved of the actor's absence. Eight percent had no opinion.

According to the survey, Gov. Gray Davis' half-hour appearance prior to the debate may not have improved his chances of avoiding recall. About a third of those surveyed, 36 percent, said the question-and-answer session caused their opinion of Davis to fall. Seventeen percent came away from the telecast with a better impression of the governor, while 46 percent said their opinion was unchanged.

,

The poll questioned 1,444 registered California voters in the hours immediately following the debate. Margin of error for the survey is %.1 percent.

No biggie - I was just curious. You would need to post the .jpg to a web page in order to link to it anyway.

So You're down to three Choices;--the CLEARLY RACIST TRAITOR MechA Supporter Bustamonte, the "Ross Perot" protest vote for the "True Conservative," MckLintock, or the "Squishy-Republican," Arnold!!

The REAL contest is between the Rino & the Racist.

SO,--WHICH will I be??, the RINO or the RACIST??

Mclintock votes are like Perot votes--"Good for your Conscience, but BAD for your Life!!"

McClintock votes elect Bustamonte. BAD.

The MechA orginization is not only BAD--it is Frankly TRAITOROUS & RACIST!! Members--& unrepentant ex-members--should be considered RACIST TRAITORS by our Government & SHOULD BE TREATED AS SUCH!!

"Bustamonte" should be IN JAIL or DEPORTED!!

Either That, or Give Back the American Southwest to Mexico, Withdraw ALL American Commerce & Wealth from the area, & accept a Smaller "America," without the Land that the "Mexicans" have Schemed to re-capture.

IF we let the "Mexicans" have our Southwest, however, we should, categorically, CANCEL ALL illegal alien presence here (we should do that anyway--), & FORCIBLY DEPORT ALL NON-CITIZENS from our nation!!

ALL commerce with Mexico should be subject to a tax to cover the expenses of any Mexican Citizens here.

ALL applicants for residency or Citizenship here MUST PROVE proficiency in English!

ALL "Citizens" of this Nation MUST BE fluent in English as a REQUIREMENT of Their Citizenship!

"Multiculturalism" is a DISCREDITED Third-World Myth/Scam!!

In apples, oranges, or likely voters?

Neither this poll, nor the two figures you cite, give any particular insight.

Why don't you check the link for yourself. By the way, you keep talking about RINO's, so what are you a NEIMO? (not even in name only.)

I don't agree with everything Arnold says, but he is a much better candidate than Bustamente. You know well that they are the only two candidates with a realistic chance to win. If Arnold doesn't win, Bustamante will, and you also know that in a head-to-head matchup, Arnold would beat Bustamante in a landslide.

However, McClintock and the other candidates don't have a chance, and you know that as well. I expect Bustamante will send you a big thank you card after the election.

30% of the vote is enough to win the election, if nobody does any better. And if Arnold backed McClintock, he would almost be a shoo-in.

I think its time for Arnie to withdraw and throw all of his support to Tom McC!

Arnie is on a steady downward trend with his high negatives, he is a divisive, polarizing figure. The base voters of the Republican party have rejected the empty suit and the liberals in both parties that are behind his campaign.

If you add Busto's 22% and McClinticktock's 30% you get most of the 55% that thought Arnolds absence was wrong. The remaining 37% are most likely those that plan on voting for him. Game over!

"KXTV reported the poll incorrectly. We interviewed 1444 registered voters, in order to find 388 who watched the debate. Percentages for that subpopulation of 388 have a margin of error of 5.1%. "

===

Thanks for correcting and clarifying that. I figured that the 0.1% margin of error had to be a typo.

Thanks for giving the numbers that out of the 1444 registered voters interviewed 388 watched the debate, which translates to a little less than 27%, IOW 73% of the registered voters did NOT watch the debate.

F Warren Hellman is on Arnolds "council" and on Thursday Hellman donated $50,000 to the Save Davis Recall Committee. There was not a link to the story but I'm sure someone could check the state campaign donations web site to verify it.

San Francisco investment banker Warren Hellman got quite an earful at his meeting with Gov. Gray Davis the other day, when he had to explain why -- after years of supporting Davis and coming out against the recall -- he showed up at Arnold Schwarzenegger's big economic summit.

"I've got some good news and bad news," Hellman reportedly told the governor when they met behind closed doors at an anti-recall fund-raiser at the Fairmont Hotel.

"I'm giving lots of money against the recall because I don't think it's right, but I'm supporting Schwarzenegger," Hellman said.

"What, after everything I've done for you?" the governor shot back.

Arnold is not your Savior. The recall is still going well. McClintock is surging...and you had better face reality. Wait till the Sunday polls appear. Arnold is slumping.

In this case the principle argument doesn't have much of a chance, so why deprive the party of a win. The alternative is much worse than any member of the party.
