Hundreds to gather for nude volleyball tournament

BEAVER FALLS -- Thousands of volleyball players will gather in Beaver County this weekend for a volleyball tournament in the buff. The 105-acre White Thorn Lodge nudist park in South Beaver Township will host the 33rd annual Volleyball Superbowl tomorrow and Sunday. As many as 1,700 people are expected to attend -- some to watch, some to play.
Nude & Natural magazine once called it "the most unique event in nudism."
"You don't sweat as much," said Jeff Poland, of Canton, Ohio, who plans to attend for the fifth straight year. "You don't get overheated because you don't have clothes keeping the heat in."
Poland plays volleyball with other -- clothed -- leagues, but believes nude volleyball games have their benefits, such as friendlier players.
The event is a nudist extravaganza of sorts, with events other than volleyball. The festivities start at 4 today, when people will begin filing in for the opening ceremonies, dances, corn roast and nude skydivers.
Some members of the nudist park admit a few of the spectators who will attend the tournament will do so to take in the sights.
Still, event organizers said the tournament's a seriously competitive event. There's even six different skill levels, from novice to college caliber.
"And people do dive. Even on the asphalt courts," White Thorn spokesman Scott Coatsworth said. "The ones who know how to do it don't even get skinned."

I'd vote for topless babes only. All else needs conventional attire.

Just to keep abreast of things, do you know if:
...this is going to be played on sand?
...there are bushes nearby where balls can get lost?
...the town mascot - a big, stuffed, beaver - will be entertaining on the sidelines?

I actually drive by it on I65 a couple times a year. Never once have I gone by when I did not chuckle. My wife just rolls her eyes and says I can't believe you still find that funny.
Nude skydiving! Man those straps would chafe. Better make sure everything is out of the way when that rip cord is pulled. Yeow.
