Court Date Set for 182mph Driver

LEHIGHTON, PA-September 4, 2003 — Just how fast will a Lamborghini go?

Police in Lehighton, Pennsylvania, charge William Faenza Junior was doing 182 in his Lamborghini Diablo.

Officers also charge Faenza was driving drunk. Police say they caught up with him when he pulled into a gas station.

While Faenza concedes he may have been doing 100, he denies going nearly 200 miles per hour.

He says if he was going that fast, the police would have never caught him.

Besides, Faenza says the wheels on his Lamborghini start to shake when he goes faster than 70.

He's to appear in court next Wednesday.

Can't beat it but I was on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1990 doing the speed limit in the two car only lanes. I was driving a Honda Civic DX. Never drove it above 80 or so but it handled great and got 31 mpg around town and 35 on the highway.

This young gal in a blue Jaguar blows past me at about 85. To my right, in the 3 car-bus-truck lanes, I see a State Trooper (I hear these NJ State Troopers are really nasty) driving an unmarked Chevy Impalla.

He zigs over to our set of lanes and shoots out past me. About 3 miles later, he has the Jaguar pulled over and the driver and passenger have their hands up with one of the driver's arms sticking out the window. Oh well, I thought.

I'm not really comfortable above 100mph, which is one of the reasons my speed record was set on an upslope. If I could go as fast as I wanted, it would be about 90-95. Of course, if I lived in Nebraska or someplace else flat, it might be different. Otherwise, I'm a plain vanilla 75 kinda guy.

163 MPH in a Roadrunner GTX: Dual Quads, twin-turbo 440 Wedge. Good thing it was a heavy car, because it felt like it was only touching the ground occasionally after about 140 MPH.

The amazing part was that I did this on Rt. 50 between Washington D.C. and Annapolis in 1979. Not another car on the road. Today you would be lucky to hit the speed limit because of the traffic.

The most I've done is 120+ in a 74 Malibu. Topped out the speedo (120) and kept accelerating. I was a passenger on a Kawasaki Ninja doing 130+. Spooky!

Mine was a bronze color though, not silver like this one. 350, 3 speed automatic. Stock.

My wife's cousin has a '97 32-foot Fountain with twin 502s. It will do an honest 100 on the Lake of the Ozarks where we live.

A buddy of mine in the Mojave desert had one of those too -- a real desert duster. Same thing happened....at over 100 mph things got a bit dicey. Accelerating up to that speed was a blast, though.

What is it with the Northeast that they have all of these toll roads and nasty, mean cops? My theory is that unchecked socialism has lead to a police state. For example,

I was on another toll road, the Mass. Turnpike, going to Ft. Devens one day in my beloved Saab turbo. As i intended to speed, i added my trusty radar detector and CB radio. I heard the truckers refer to me as bear bait, lol.

Lo and behold, I pass a Mass state trooper (lol, if you've ever been to Mass. you'll know that these guys are the epitome of Jack Booted Thugs-they make the Nazi SS look like faries, with the jodpuhrs, riding boots, sam brown belt, etc) who apparently was clocking me, though my radar never went off. Sure enough, about two miles down the road, a Mass. JBT is out standing next to his cruiser, waving me over to join a line of about 10 other speeders.

Folks, this is the mentality in the People's Republic of Massachussets. The cops expect you to just pull over like any of the other sheep.

At this point, I decided if you are going to get me, you'll have to earn it. I pulled away, accelerated and really moved out. Took the next exit, and began escape and evasion procedures. They never got me. I'll be damned if they think they can pull me over like some sheep that lives there lol.

Course i'm older and smarter now.

I was driving in Alberta, Canada, when I looked at my speedometer and saw I was doing 130...funny, it didn't feel any faster than 80 *wink*

I had a 64 MGB in 1965. That stupid peace of DU(mp) was in the garage being fixed more than driven by me. It had an eternal gas leaking problem. Never by a British car... there on the same level as British cuisine (sp).

Road & Track had clocked the 87 GT at 149 on the track. It was a little "drifty" but relatively stable. The windows would start to get sucked out after about 120mph creating a high pitched whoosing sound. Keep in mind this car cost around $15,500 in 1987. Not a good thing for a 20 yr old to be driving in NJ.

Holly 1050. 110 electric fuel pump. Heads ported polished. Comp Cam. Tranny and rear end work. Too it to Header By Ed for a full exhaust treatment. Reworked the entire suspension with Comp Engineering parts. Mallory ignition. Pete Jackson gear drive. Never did get around to putting a huffer or NOX on it. ;-)

Oh, and I cut a couple hundred pounds of metal out of it and other "lighten the load" junkyard warrior type stuff. Put the old girl on a serious diet.

I remember in the Damore book about Chappaquiddick (sp?), after Senator Ted had his accident, the state police were so nice they replaced his expired drivers license with a new one at the records center. What a bunch of sweethearts.
