Bill "Limp Wrist" Frist and his fellow faggots in the GOP Seneate "leadership" are true cowards. But the buck stops with the President, who chose this "new tone" nonsense over the strong exercise of power by either (1) Forcing 24 hr filibusters or, (2) Making recess appointments.
What galls me also are these FReepers who say "Bush respects the letter of the law" by NOT making recess appointments. This is foolish idealism. Meanwhile dozens of vacancies go unfilled on courts that then retain Klintonian majorities...free to strike down religious freedoms, abortion restrictions, enforce gay mandates et al.
It is all about POWER. And Bush has mostly squandered his high ratings between 9/12/2001 and 9/12/2003 by failing to push through anything (but tax cuts) which wasn't first approved by Ted Kennedy. Very disappointing.

Wrong. The Dems did what they felt they had to do to keep a judge they opposed off the bench - and it worked! So you believe that the ends justify the means.

I'm sorry, but as much as I hate to say it, I blame President Bush. He had the power to make a recess appointment here, and he didn't do it.

They do not. The debate is still open on throwing out precedent...but let's assume they did. They were able to do so because of inaction and reaction from the GOP. Tit for tat, the GOP should have reacted in kind. Instead, they blustered about threatening this and that without EVER backing their words.
IF the Dems did throw out 200 years of precedent...they did so because no one stopped them.

Of course, the problem is, WTF do we do to keep it from happening again? Your guess is as good as mine. The depravity of the rats knows no bounds.

What Estrada probably wanted was an up and down vote which the petulant demos refused to have.

You fight fire with fire. You use the nuke strategy talked about but never employed by Senate leadership. You take away all privileges from the minority party and make their life a living hell until they decide to play nice. They are many strategies that can be employed to crap all over the Dems...and the GOP just refuses.

The blame must be squarely put on the RATS, not the GOP. We did not have the 60 votes to break the filibuster, and, indeed, had there been a filibuster during a time of rising unemployment, the media would have had a field day blaming the GOP. The view was not worth the climb.
The sad reality is that we have a Stupid Party (GOP) and an Unprincipled Party (RATS).
RATS are filthy, scheming liars who will eviserate any decorum, tradition, protocol, order, precedent or any other type of responsible behavior in the pursuit of raw political power. If anyone on this thread admires this type of behavior, I think they should re-examine their priorities.

Absolutely shameful, and one of the main reasons
I no longer donate to the RNC.

So you believe that the ends justify the means. In politics, it does. If you don't believe the Democrats play that way, you are bringing a knife to a gunfight.
Look at what they are doing in Texas. Look at what they are doing in California. NOTHING is beneath them and it's been that way for at least a decade now.
Wake up and smell the coffee. The only way to stop them is to hit them back harder than they hit. Our wimpy RINOs refuse to acknowledge this and that criticism goes all the way to the top.
They've just allowed the MINORITY party to decide who chooses the judges in this country because they didn't care enough to stop it.

Okay, we go nuclear NOW. What would the Dems do, then?
This has to be used in a careful manner - and at a time when the nuclear option would NOT harm things that had to be done, like appropriations bills.

Schumer could rant on for days, while the Pubbies have to have 50 people there at every moment, because the demo could ask fo an up and down vote and defeat the nomination.
As was stated before Strom Thurmond was not in the best of health.
Also I could see the liberal press giving the "noble" Schumer or Hillary accolades for going against those mean old Republicans.
Sorry but I think it is better to hammer the point that the demos threw out 200 years of Senate precedent.

This is an outrage. The Democrats should pay in the next election for this. No its Republ - I-CANT's that should pay! First Ed Gillespie basically outlines the party by sticking a fork into the Reagan legacay and now this! Simple majority passes judges. These bullsh!t 15 minute a day fillabusters are the outrage! Ted Kennedy and Pat Leahey should be made to fillabuster until they both die of heart attacks! The only thing the RNC understands is money. Die these bastards up until the party conforms. If it elects a Democrap majority, so be it! Our majority hasn't gotten us sh!t!

Okay...then let's just let the Dems kill every Conservative nomination to the courts and call it a day.
We, as Repubbies are so damn predictable and easy to strategize against it amazes me we actually win elections.
Screw everything else and make this a 24/7 bloodbath. We had that choice...to make the Dems LOUDLY defeat a hispanic conservative...and we opted to let them to quietly defeat Estrada.

A year and few months is better than nothing at all. Estrada could have then used the time to prove he is worthy. Plus, in 2005, the Senate *could* have a larger GOP majority, in which case, he would be confirmed.
