This is my all time favorite, as it compares the plight of MEChA/LA VOZ DE AZTLAN to that of the Palestinians. Click on the link and Read on:

I found the VERY interesting Aztland Underground site listed on the Cornell University MEChA website on their links page. Check out some of the other "Links" sites at the bottom of the page.

Freepers, also check out Aztland Underground.com's "Links" and "Recommended Literature" pages (found along the side bar on the right hand side of the page. Also note video, photo, audio, etc links.

I will try to post some of the info here in case they start cleaning up their site.

RECOMMENDED LITERATURE

The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
What can one say about this Toltec book of Wisdom? This book has been pivotal in helping us as a band to address our own issues or agreements we mistakenly have made with our selves due to parental colonial indoctrination. The four agreements of Impeccability of your word, Dont take anything personal, Dont make assumptions, and Always do your best has truly been a lesson for us. As brief a book as it is, it has been immensely mind opening in terms of self reevaluation. Refering to it time to time is very useful in everyday life. All we can say is our Toltec ancestors definately knew the power of word magic and its true practicality in life. Rather than attempt to explain, go out and read it!

Guevara Also Known as Che by Paco Ignacio Taibo
This book is a good one for an overview and analysis of Comandante Che Guevara's (RIP) life, passion, and accomplishments. What can we say? The brother represented everything a warrior should be. He always put his people first before him, he was always the first to enter the line of fire, and above all he was doing it in the name of love. Always the brother to seek justice and look for a way to inspire the people. Although his foco theory seemed a bit unrealistic his heart was in the right place and we are all still searching for the best way to engage the people. This book documents all his military exploits from the revolution of Cuba to Africa and finally in Bolivia. In our opinion, if you read between the lines, it appears that he may have been led on/tricked, or that he was unable to analyze his situation correctly because he was doomed the moment he decided to continue on with the expedition after no back up came from Cuba. He should have retreated and regrouped to come back at another angle considering media propaganda was working, which subsequently affected the engagement of the people, and most of his troop was captured and or killed. His spirit lives on! Que viva Che!!!

The Patriot Chiefs by Alvin M. Josephy
Again, this author is a white man who has a sympathetic but colonial perspective. However, reading between the lines you can summize a lot more than meets the eye. From the start, the author begins his no guilt documentation of different indigenous leaders by stating that on both sides of the White vs Red fight were bad as well as good people. That no one side should feel victimized or a victimizer because it is just history. Yeah right! The victimized still live in oppression to this day! Anyway, the reason for choosing this book is that it is important to learn as much as possible about our leaders who were laying the ground work for indigenous resistance since the begining of contact. This book covers Pope, King Phillip, Crazy Horse, Osceola, Chief Joseph, Black Hawk, Pontiac and Tecumseh. We will give you a brief example of some of the good info in this book so that you can get a taste. The story of Pope is a good example of the effects of colonization. It is about how the so called Pueblo people kicked the Spaniards out of Santa Fe. Interestingly enough, Pope, who lead the rebellion, emulated the Spaniards after ousting them. The profound effects of being colonized reveals itself even after there were no more Spaniards in sight. Rather than holding council Pope would assume absolute control like the Spaniard governor that had been kicked out. He chose to dress in similar fashion as the previous administrators and would be carried around just like the governor. He was justifiably dethroned by his people. A good account of what to prepare for! Some more dope info lies in the story of Pontiac. Pontiac was an Ottawa warrior who it is said was welcomed by an extraordinary thunder and lightning storm the day of his birth. This the elders told was a sign of a great person. Without a doubt Pontiac was definitely great. As a young man he was fortunate enough to see an elder known as "The Delaware Prophet." This prophet warned of the dependance on the White mans ways by the Red man. The prophet stated that the white mans ways go against the creator, that if the Red man continued on this path then oblivion would follow. The prophet stated that the only way to save the people and the world was to send the White man back across the Atlantic. Inspired by this and the continued abuse by the British, Pontiac was the first indigenous leader to conceptualize a pan indigenous movement of resistance. He went around nation to nation garnering support and simultaneously carried out victories against the Brits. He was gaining a lot of momentum when he foolishly relied on the French for armed support. The French flaked so the Brits caught him and the people slippin, this made a lot of warriors bail out on Pontiac. This weakened the warrior and the wasichu eventually caught up with him. The author reports that Pontiac recieved money in exchange for peace and that other warriors heard about it which resulted in Pontiac's murder. But when you look at what really went on you cannot help but notice that announcing to the different nations this particular information only serves to help pacify any inkling of resistant thought as well as discredit Pontiac so that the struggle would be delegitimized. Early cointelpro misinformation campaign! Anyway, Pontiac was the inspiration for Tecumseh who also believed in a unified Red nation. Pontiac was the begining of our continental unity. We must learn from his example and attempt to unite in a strong way across all of Abya Yala!!

The Annexation of Mexico by John Ross
First off let us begin by noticing that some of these books that we are putting here are written by white people writing about indigenous people. The cold hard truth is that, more often than not, white people have more access to our own "information" than we do, this is a reality brought upon by centuries of colonization. But as critical thinkers we are able to differentiate between the facts and eurocentric opinion. Still left with the understanding of our ancestors values we are able to discern the objective and the subjective. Therefore, in "Annexation of Mexico" John Ross messes up right away with his title, "From the Aztecs to the IMF", As if to say that the Mexica were in the same league of foreign imperialist forces looking to conquer when they appeared in the valley of Mexico. In this respect it is wrong to infer that they could really be compared with the Spaniards or the neo-colonial IMF/World bank. This is not to justify any unhappiness that they may have imposed on their continental brethren, however, Ross is completely wrong in his passages "Crushing and conquering cultures", "and imposing their own gods on local deities." On the contrary it is well known that the Mexica people would in fact adopt different spiritual symbologies from the neighboring peoples. For example, Xipe Totec "the flayed one" is from the area now known as Guerrero. As well as other symbologies within their pantheon. This is all very natural considering that indigenous people up and down the continent inherently respect different nations spiritual interpretations of the creator because it is quite clear that the air all of us breathe come from the same creator, no matter what you call the creator, Ometeotl, Wakan, Chango, Buhhda, Krishna, etc...this is the red road. Despite this lack of understanding, John Ross does get down when it comes to the neocolonial control the United Snakes/IMF/World Bank has on current day Mexico. He chronicles the US's goal of annexing Mexico from before the theft of 1848 all the way through the Revolution until present. If you want a hands on understanding of what Neoliberalism is, if you want to know what exactly the IMF/World Bank is and how it controls Mexico and the world, then you definitely need to peep this book out. And it is not written all academic, it is written in a very non complicated manner. Surprisingly, it actually talks long shit!

Seeker of Visions by John Fire Lame Deer
The reason why we recommend this book is because it gives a good non-romanticized view of the red peoples world view. The book chronicles the turbulent colonized upbringing of Lame Deer and his lack of internalized identity early in his life which led to alcoholism and criminal behavior. It also chronicles his return to the good red road, which is our peoples term for living your life in balance and respect for all living things and creation. Lame Deer breaks down, in a very practical sense, indigenous values in contrast to western values, the difference between the circle and the square. If you are searching to understand what it means to live your life as a red person amidst this death style madness, then this is the book for you. But remember, follow no man because that is not our way, your path is YOUR own.

The CIA's Greatest Hits by Mark Zepezauer
We recommend this book because it is perfect for those people who find it hard to find time to read. Because in a quick 2 page format with illustration it breaks down 42 "hits" that the CIA has been involved in since its inception. Everything from its Nazi affiliated creation of the agency, to mind control experiments, to its covert operations in small countries throughout the world, where despite the countries attempts to create democracy, have had coup de tat and puppet governments set up by the CIA for economic control of the respective countries resources. Also, included in this 96 page book is the exposure of the "Mighty Wurlitzer" which is a media control filter that is set up world wide by the CIA to filter news that enters the United States so that the public is kept in the dark. It also documents that over 400 journalists within the US are employees of the CIA. Also, documentation about "Operation CHAOS" which is the code word for domestic surveillance of campus activism and the construction of fake radical groups to keep tabs on revolutionary forces. From Vietnam, MLK, Malcolm X, Drug trafficking, Iran/Contra, to El Salvador, this book is a must see for those interested in understanding how it is that the US maintains control worldwide of many countries and people to maintain its power and control.

Wretched of the Earth by Franz Fanon
This book is important because Franz Fanon was one of the first to document and analyze the methodology of colonization, breaking down the relationship of the colonizer and the colonized. The colonized here are the Algierians by the colonizer French people. This work is very useful because it is relative to all non white people who suffer at the hands of colonialism/neo-colonialism. A good reference movie is "The Battle of Algiers" 1965.
