Applications Sought For Executive Director Position

Dear Friends,
The Executive Director of the Harris County Democratic Party is the person who (subject to the direction and supervision of the County Chair) is responsible for the administrative and day-to-day operations of the party and the coordination of its efforts to mobilize its supporters. Fulfillment of that function includes responsibility for (either personally or through recruitment and supervision of other qualified individuals): Assuring that all administrative, fiscal, organizational, and accounting functions of the party are timely and accurately and performed, including Federal Elections Commission and Texas Ethics Commission reports, bank deposits and reconciliations, tax returns, and payroll functions and reports;
Until the Party is able to hire a director of technology or information services, overseeing data processing and computer operations of the Party;
Working and interfacing with, and assisting, committees, subcommittees, and their respective chairs to fulfill the missions of the Party's various committees;
In cooperation with the Volunteer Coordinator, coordinating and supervising, the work of volunteers, including especially office volunteers, training them, and directing and overseeing their work duties and generally providing management for maintaining a functional office and facility to support Party activities;
Actively engaging in fundraising activities of the party and personally participating in substantial fundraising activities;
Attending meetings of the Steering Committee and the Executive Committee of the Harris County Democratic Party;
Coordinating efforts and activities of the Harris County Democratic Party with the Texas Democratic Party, the Democratic National Committee, and Democratic elected officials and officeholders, and fostering productive relationship with them;
Assisting the Chair in spreading the Democratic message throughout the local area and other communications and public relations efforts;
Assisting in election efforts, to the extent directed by the Harris County Democratic Party Chair;
Discharging such other and additional tasks, responsibilities, and duties as the Chair or the Executive Committee or the Steering Committee shall direct.
QUALIFICATIONS The only mandatory requirement for the position is that the applicant must provide evidence of having voted in a Democratic Party primary election in at least two of the last three Primary Elections and not have voted in a Republican, Green, Libertarian, or other party primary, nor signed a nominating petition for a candidate of any such other party, at any time between 1997 and the present. (It is not necessary that the applicant have voted in a primary election in Harris County or even in the state of Texas, so long as he or she has voted in Democratic Party primaries in some location in the United States).
Substantial involvement in community organizing activities and party functions, active participation in political campaigns and especially filling position(s) of responsibility in same, demonstrated capabilities in fundraising, and basic familiarity and comfort with computer technology (such as databasing, mail-merge word processing, and mass e-mailing) are highly preferred (though not necessarily mandatory) qualifications.

They may be submitted by e-mail addressed to candidates@hcdp.org or by telecopier to either (713) 802-2082 (the party office) or (713) 981-8670 (the office of the County Chair, if the applicant prefers to maintain a higher degree of confidentiality with regard to either the fact that he or she is submitting an application for the position or the contents of the resume) or by mail addressed to either Harris County Democratic Party, 1445 N. Loop W., Suite 110, Houston, TX 77008 (the party headquarters) or to Gerry Birnberg, 6671 Southwest Freeway, Suite 303, Houston, TX 77074 (the address of the office of the County Chair, if the applicant prefers to maintain a higher degree of confidentiality with regard to either the fact that he or she is submitting an application or the contents of the resume), or by hand delivery to either the North Loop West headquarters location of the Party or the Southwest Freeway office of the County Chair. In any case, however, the resume should be sent sufficiently in advance of the deadline so that it is received by September 18, 2003.
If available, resumes should be accompanied by letters of recommendation from no more than four current or former officeholders or candidates with whom the applicant has worked attesting to the applicant's capabilities in the areas specified above as preferred qualifications.
