A dog works wonders on these types. Mine is a very friendly choc. lab, but her size intimidates strangers. They back off very quickly. Little do they know that if I let her loose on them, she would just lick them to death!

I have boxers. One is 85 lbs and the other is 55 lbs. Though they are the nicest dogs in the world, they hate strangers and anyone who knocks on the door. And boxers of that size, especially the 85 lb one are very intimidating in appearance.

We have three dogs, but the real Mr. ADT is our ChowChow. At 7 years old, he's TINY - only 39 pounds - but he can be FEROCIOUS to anyone who doesn't belong here. In the absence of the glass storm door, Romeo(that's his name - and well-deserved) was ready to chew the UPS man a new one yesterday.

I used to have the same mindset about my Choc. Lab, until recently. Don't let 'em fool ya. My boy got down right nasty and got it on a few weeks back with a stranger and his dog that was in the area (actually, walking very close to my property). Gotta say though, was happy to find he was willing and able when he wanted to be.

Had a Brittany several years ago that I thought was the "lick you to death" type.

Then we had a sub UPS driver come in our business one day. Misty came off her sofa and positioned herself between my wife and that driver and her body language was very clear as to what would happen if there was a problem.

We saw her react that way to maybe 5 different people in her life, one of which happened to be a State Trooper who stopped the wife.

She never did defend me, however! Guess that shows who she really owned, huh?

My lab is the same way, he barks at anything that moves, that has them scared before I open the door.
