[history]
Campaigning for the Democratic nomination for president, Howard Dean frequently points to his record as Vermont's governor to indicate his fitness for the job. I served with Mr. Dean in the Senate, ran against him for the governor's office in 1992, and have watched him in action in the decade since. Now is a good time to re-examine his record.

Attuned to political implications, his style has been to intervene at critical points rather than devote time, effort, and political capital to creating efficient and predictable government.Right on target. Dean was rarely heard from as the legislature struggled over important issues. When they had come to some kind of consensus, he'd step in and either support it or threaten to veto it.
He single-handedly prevented Vermont from entering the Powerball lottery for years, in spite of widespread support in the state.

How long before the 8 other dwarves start using this to slow the Dean train? He's running away with the lead and the silence is deafening. More importantly, when are the DLC and the DNC going to start slowing the train?
