When I first heard about this I immediately pictured it as as an X-Files teaser. I halfway expect Krycheck to be involved.
It would make a great CSI too.

Wasn't there some movie with this same concept? A prison where every prisoner wears an explosive collar, along with another. The Running Man.

Charmin' toilet seat for Yasser.

Regardless, I think the cops are going to do everything they can to pin this on the pizza guy and close their investigation as quickly as possible.

Wasn't there some movie with this same concept? Yes. I believe that was in Arnold's epic "The Running Man." If you ran past the electronic gates, the countdown would begin and your head would blow off.

Goin Out of My Head... Over you! Goin Out of my Head, Over you! (Lil Anthony and the Imperials, 1965)
Well, I think I'm goin' out of my head
Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head
Over you, Over you
I want you to want me, I need you so badly
I can't think of anything but you
And I think I'm goin' out of my head
Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head
Over you, Over you
I see you each morning
But you just walk past me You don't even know that I exist
Goin' out of my head over you
Out of my head over you Out of my head day and night
Night and day and night, Wrong or right
I must think of a way Into your heart
There's no reason why My being shy Should keep us apart
And I think I'm goin' out of my head
Yes, I think I'm goin' out of my head
Goin' out of my head over you
Out of my head over you Out of my head day and night
Night and day and night, Wrong or right
Night and day and night
Wrong or right, day or night
everyday, every, every day

Think about this.......My invisible fence for my dog/s uses a radio signal sent to a collar reciever. If the collar goes beyond a certain boundry, a high voltage shock(several thousand volts) is sent to the dog's flesh.
That same voltage could be wired to a detonator for another ten cents of wire and a penny's worth of solder. Evil knows no boundries.

No it didn't. That's one of the weird things about this case. None of the pictures I've seen show a drop of blood. It didn't even damage the police car he was next to. And the bomb looked huge.

No one knows who his partner is, and they can't be any more than 300 feet away from each other or else both collars explode.Well, hopefully no one will be forced to rob a bank because of the Big Bouncing Ball on the British series "The Prisoner".

Actually, it was a movie named
Deadlock, although it looks like it is now called Wedlock...
To: theDentist
Wasn't there some movie with this same concept? It's an overused plot device. "Running Man" used it; Rutger Hauer dealt with it in "Wedlock" (forgettable flick, don't bother); it's been done in others as well.

It was designed to detonate if tampered with, via contacks in the coller.
The CSI device used a photocell trigger.

I dont recall the exact details of The Running Man collars, but I do remember watching some other cheesy sci-fi movie, with the pair of prisoners escaping and running around. It was a guy (a regular on cheeseball sci-fi) and a woman (pretty attractive I think).. one great scene was when she managed to get on a bus, but the bus pulled away from the stop, so the guy has to chase the bus down to the next stop, so as not to break the 300 foot limit...

A couple of people have said "Running Man" but I think the movie your thinking of is "Wedlock." It's a cheesy made-for-TV movie that they show on the Sci-Fi Channel from time to time.
To: blackdog
Look for the next one to be forced to board a crowded bus like in Israel. The bank was just an announcement.Overly dramatic ... dollars to donuts this guy was the *only* one involved ...

Something similar was used in the collars in the Japanese flick/book/manga "Battle Royale" (I doubt it'll ever be shown in the states - plot is simple. Future society, kids get out of control; kids are sent to a deserted island and fitted with the collars. They're told to kill each other. If they choose not to, the collar is triggered. Pretty bloody, actually.)
