JACKSONVILLE, Fla -- The suspect accused of killing a man Saturday night in a gas station shoot out was in critical condition Monday with a bullet wound to the head from the man he killed.
Police said a teenager with a gun attacked Charles Day, 30. Day was stopping to pick up milk and a morning snack for his 7-year-old daughter at a gas station on Broadway and Edgewood around midnight.
"Everywhere he went that baby was with him ... it's gonna kill her," close family friend Joyce Bledsoe told Channel 4's Jennifer Waugh.
Detectives said Day was carrying a gun as well. They said he had a concealed weapons permit and shot back in self-defense.
Police said Day's quick thinking saved his wife's life. She was sitting in the car watching it all.
Bledsoe said this was a senseless crime that tore a young girl away from her father.
"She says 'Nanna do you know about my dad?' I says yes and I said, 'Do you know where your dad's at?' She says 'He's dead, he's in the ground, no he's in heaven,'" Bledsoe said.

Police said Day's quick thinking saved his wife's life. She was sitting in the car watching it all Perhaps the only positive thing to come out of this sad event. Well, that and the fact that the bastard that shot him will, hopefully, die a slow, painfull death in the hospital.
At least the citizen got the punk scum in the head. That should severely cut down his chance of surviving and getting off on a technicality, then suing the family of the man he killed.

When the disarmed in MD get shot at gas stations, people cower in fear. But this case shows what happens when a CCW holder is shot. True, the CCW holder is dead, but the perp is in critical condition and in custody, and won't be shooting anyone else.

The next punk that considers robbing a gas station customer in Florida will probably think twice.

Police said Day's quick thinking saved his wife's life. The Dad protected his family and saved his wife's life. He is a hero!
The anti-gunners think you should just call 911 and all die without protest.

True, the CCW holder is dead, but the perp is in critical condition and in custody, and won't be shooting anyone else.More importantly, his family is alive.
That's one CCW permit that has lived up to its full value. May the family frame it and pass it down as an heirloom...because they can.

Damn. At least the fellow went down fighting.
May God rest his soul, and look after his family.

I'm afraid if the truth be known, the ccw holder had a little peashooter for protection. I have a ccw and I wouldn't think of carrying anything smaller than a 38spl revolver. But most times, it is a Glock 23. And a 40 in the head of the perp should do the trick.
