LOS ANGELES (AP) - Arnold Schwarzenegger is often compared to Ronald Reagan, another movie star-turned-politician who blazed California's gubernatorial trail decades ago.

But Reagan actually had more relevant experience than Schwarzenegger, having spent years as head of the Screen Actors Guild and as a corporate spokesman for General Electric. And unlike Schwarzenegger, he also was a social conservative. Indeed, in the view of most, there are as many differences as similarities between California's two premier actor-politicians.

I guess Arnold must have started a crash course on reading up on Ronald Reagan. Promise, no "Bedtime For Bonzo" jokes here on FR!

As an aside, if Hatch gets his way and a Constitutional amendment passes that allows foreign born presidents, that will be the end of the Republic.

There has been no charge low enough for McClintock supporters to make against Schwarzenegger. Even McClintock implied a falsehood about Schwarzenegger, and I'm am being charitable.

And Hatch has been described as a leading conservative for decades. The man is unfit for office. He actually proposed that we gift China with our entire patent database.

I support Schwarenegger over Bustamante, but there's no way in hell I want him to be president.

"Reagan would never have had a Buffett, and if a Buffett said let's do away with Prop. 13 and Reagan felt differently, Reagan would have said you're off the commission," Steinberg said.

But Arnie has to keep "Tax em and Kill em" Warren Buffet on the team so he and Pete Wilson can figure out the best way for Arnie to jack up taxes after he is elected. I'm sure an "emergency" will popup at an opportune time.

The Howard Jarvis Taxpayer's Association endorsed Schwarzenegger and stated, ""There probably is no candidate that articulates as strongly a pro-taxpayer position."

Regarding Buffet's place on Schwarzenegger's team, Buffet's remarks 8/20 at the Economic Recovery Council conference:

"I first became aware of just how bad the fiscal situation was in California and how important it was for leadership that would attack the problem early in June. At that time, California needed to sell 11 billion dollars in warrants. Those are securities that come due in less than a year, approximately a year, and California found out that its credit card was no longer acceptable in the investment world. They presented it and it was handed back to them and they were told, the state was told to get somebody to gauarantee that you'll have access to the credit markets in the next year. So they got a syndicate of seven investment banks led by Merrill Lynch and 84 million dollars was paid not to borrow money, but simply to assure investors that someone somewhere would lend money to California in the next 12 months. If they don't, Merrill Lynch and their group will get a very, very hefty fee for providing the money."

"So, when the state gets to the position where a syndicate of investment banks are regarded as a better credit than what I believe is the richest and most important state in the union, a change is needed. That change is going to require someone determined who is credible to the investment world to present a plan for a balanced budget and as Arnold said this wasn't created in a couple weeks and it doesn't get solved in a couple weeks. But within the next year, because if June comes around of next year and that problem has not been addressed, it won't be solved for 84 million dollars and it won't be solved for 184 million dollars."

"Credit is like oxygen, you know when you have it you don't even notice it and when you don't have it it is the only thing you are thinking about and we got very close to that point in California in June and without the problem being addressed it will be around here in spades next June."

"There are 35 millions plus Californians counting on leadership. They are going to have to feed their families tomorrow and next week and next month and next year. And they are going to feed them only in one way and that is if they have jobs. And they are only going to have jobs in one way also and that is if employers expand their businesses and come to California just like they did in the past years. This state has provided millions and millions and millions of jobs over the years but in recent, particularly in the recent couple of years the trend has gone the other way and that has to be reversed because 35 millions people aren't going to eat otherwise and they are going to need jobs."

"And after looking at the situtation, I felt only new leadership could get that job done and take care of those 35 million people and that's why I'm out here with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Thanks."
