PHOENIX - Barry Bonds was hospitalized Sunday night because of exhaustion following his father's death.

Bonds was scratched from San Francisco's lineup just minutes before Sunday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, one day after he left a game because of an accelerated heart rate.

(seems he uses his strength to compensate for accuracy)

But Woods' accuracy with the club has never been complete and the 27-year-old's domination of the game is due to other factors.

Chief among those is his ability to hit a low, straight and powerful tee-shot with his long irons, therefore eliminating the need to take driver at a number of holes.

His statistics for 2003 bear out his lack of faith in the driver - in six tournaments, he has used the club just 48 times - an average of twice a round.

OK, one more, and THEN i have to finish dinner, really!

I assure you that there wasn't a noise in the room other than the radio broadcast: every mouth was open and dry, all eyes were wide. When he launched the first pitch into orbit over the left-field fence to win the game, I wanted to cry for the glory of the feat. For one brief moment, Pac Bell Park was the center of the universe. And, the funny thing is that it feels that way to Giants fans just about every time he steps to the plate.

BluesDuke, is that you? (That's a compliment!)

I was traveling during that series, unfortunately. But it was just like that during the Braves series. And dammit, I had a chance to see the Thursday night game (from the Club Level, beneath the KNBR booth!), but I couldn't go. So we watched at home (with fewer kids, though). It was magical. I videotaped it, and I'm glad I did.

More later ... really!

He denied them specifically in an interview with Bob Costas within the past year. Give me a little time, and I'll come up with the quote.

Baseball's Demise

By Matthew Ross

Steroids in baseball
I knew it, I knew there had to be an answer to and a reason for Barry Bonds' increased power surge over the last year and a half. How else do you explain Bonds gaining about 35 pounds of sheer muscle over a three-year span after his 35th birthday?

When asked to comment about steroids in baseball, Bonds did not deny or admit that he uses them. He did not volunteer to be tested or denounce the usage of steroids in baseball. Instead, Bonds gave an ambiguous statement saying that steroids don't make you a better baseball player.

In contrast, Sammy Sosa adamantly denied that he uses steroids. He even went so far as to say that he would be first in line to be tested. Sosa is one of the few things that are right with baseball. Major league baseball must find a way to use Sosa to lobby the MLB Players Association to allow steroid testing. Of course, the players claim that testing is an infringement on their civil liberties. I didn't know that cheating was a civil liberty...

Thanks for the update.

Bonds is without question the league's MVP. I read the other day that the Giants play around .667 ball with him, and way under .500 without him. His presence must drastically alter the opposing pitcher's approach to the other Giants. Albert Pujols deservers some consideration, however. That guy is the real deal. His time will come.

I haven't read through this thread, but its length suggests that there's some sort of controversy going on here. Is it the same tired old steroid issue? I hope not. The guy's dad (who he was very close to) just died. I wouldn't blame him for being exhausted/dehydrated in the least.

"Brilliance, and a penchant for gestures larger than life doesn't come from pills."

"Bonds has admitted to taking supplements (pills). Have you ever seen him quoted denying taking steroids when he is asked?"

What is the term for a question, which would be a non sequitur if it were a conclusion?

Look at the structure of this exchange.

Statement: A and B don't come from C.

Response: Person X has admitted to taking D. Have you ever seen him quoted denying taking C?

I repeat: Brilliance, and a penchant for gestures larger than life doesn't come from pills.

Thanks for the feedback.

People have been saying that lots of athletes dope for decades and we're just not seeing the side effects in their post athletic career. If they're all roiding they should all be dieing like Lyle Alzaido, they're not. I've wondered this as well. Scare tactics abounded 20 years ago about the dangers of roids (Cancer/heart disease/other freak ailments. I only saw a few Alzado type cases though. I think that lots of atheletes are under medical supervision and are using them without endangerment.

Pro wrestlers are the onre goup of atheletes that are exhibiting negative health efffects in numbers(Rude/Henning/Bull dog/Graham/Ventura etc.). I believe they are stacking and not under close scrutiny.

Lots of rumors about Bo Jackson's injury being steroid related. Muscles too much for tendons & skeletal system.

No need to. It was "No". He said he was getting tired of being asked. But he is still against a testing program for baseball and for him. Till that changes, baseball will still have a steroid problem.

Sucks to be wrong, doesn't it.

I'm wrong? So... you're not a class act? Ok, if you say so.

Thanks for the link to the article which proves two things: Rick Reilly doesn't like Barry Bonds, and Jeff Kent doesn't like Barry Bonds. Why this means that you don't like Barry Bonds is something only you can answer. Are you Jeff Kent's mommy?

It's worth adding that there are plenty of folks who don't like Jeff Kent.

do I have to recapitulate the whole conversation?

I said: you don't know jack squat about whether Bonds has used steroids

You said: Neither do you

I said: I'm not pretending to - you are.

GET IT? It's really not that difficult.

"He never made me tremble when the ball was hit to him, nor has he ever."

"A quick aside while I make dinner... Marvin Benard DID!"

And, he might again!

But, to really make your knees turn to jelly, do you remember Johnny Disaster at short? I used to pray that they wouldn't hit it to him late in a tight game.
