PHOENIX - Barry Bonds was hospitalized Sunday night because of exhaustion following his father's death.
Bonds was scratched from San Francisco's lineup just minutes before Sunday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, one day after he left a game because of an accelerated heart rate.

I believe MLB's bereavment leave is only six days.
Apparently, that wasn't long enough for Barry.

What a moronic and useless comment. Is such idiocy normal for you?
To: Mad_Tom_Rackham
I agree. His father just died. What an insulting comment.

What a moronic and useless comment. Is such idiocy normal for you? Most poeple do not have to be hospitalized after their father's death. Would you wish that the doctor's NOT consider his past drug use when treating him?

Steroids won't do what happened to him. It was related to the passing of his dad. Lighten up a bit, maybe.

Most people? What, Are you now a know-it-all pollster, too? SHADDUP already. Sheese. He was CLOSE to his dad. Maybe that is something you can't understand.

I think that Barry, his dad, and Willie Mays had a very close relationship -- Willie tutored Bobby as a young player (I actually remember wathcing TV as a boy, and watching Willie give the glare-of-death to rookie Bobby when he almost ran into Willie on a catch in the gap near the wall. What a hoot. Willie was shooting daggers with his eyes.)
Barry grew up around these men. This could easily have devastated Barry physically much more than he realizes...stress works like that, quietly. He may need a few weeks to really settle down.

Poor kid. I'll include him in my prayers tonight.

Roids didn't kill his Dad. Show a bit of heart.

My father passed away last month from cancer. i had taken an exessive amount of leave from my job when he was critical, then terminal..... and I was a relatively new employee. My bosses were OK with this.
After he passed away, I resigned..... knowing I would have to take even more time (memorial service, funeral, affairs, taking care of mother, etc.) and I didn't think it fair to the company. If I had been at the company for 15 or 20 years, I'm sure I wouldn't have left.
Barry Bonds needs the time that HE needs to go through his greiving process...... not what others may think.

Everyone reacts differently to grief. Don't judge others, as it often comes back to bite you in the a**.

I have always liked Bonds (though I think that puts me in a minority). He wasn't just going back to work, he was going back to baseball which I'm sure he cannot separate from his father.

Grief can do odd things to you. When you have to plan a funeral, get through the viewing, the service, the burial you go on 'auto pilot' you just do what has to be done. When all the external 'things' are covered and you are alone with your thoughts your emotions can just take over you. I know...I am any only child and both of my parents away (I was young when my mom died, and my dad died a three years ago--we were very, very close). You do what needs to be done and then you just unravel yourself until you sort things out. I have never been a Barry Bonds fan (I remember him from his days as a Pittsburgh Pirate) but he is obviously hurting emotionally. May the Lord be with him and his family....
