32 terror alerts in effect; most for Jerusalem and North

Under tight security and dozens of terror alerts, the school year began Sunday for 1.75 million pupils, with Internal Security Minister Tzahi Hanegbi refusing to rule out a Palestinian attack on an Israeli school.

"There are an increasing and worrisome number of
alerts over impending terror attacks," Hanegbi said during a Sunday morning tour of Jerusalem schools that he made together with Jerusalem police chief Mickey Levy.

With most intelligence warnings in place for Jerusalem and the north, security officials said that they had no fewer than 32 terror alerts in effect as of Sunday morning.

Levy said that all forces were out in the capital in an effort to thwart any attack, and that while there were a motley of general alerts for attacks in Jerusalem, no specific warnings had been received as of Sunday morning.

For several days now, the Hamas terror organization has said that a series of painful "revenge attacks" are imminent.
