EUGENE, Ore. -- A lesbian couple alleges that O'Hara Catholic School refused admission to their 4-year-old daughter because of their sexual orientation.
The couple has complained to the Eugene Human Rights Commission and the Oregon Child Care Division.
One of the women, Lee Inkmann, said O'Hara Principal Dianne Bert told her in mid-August that having a family with two mothers at the school would confuse other children, and that gay unions are in conflict with Vatican teachings.

This must be fought until victory. Lesbians and homosexual men can NOT be allowed to set the moral agenda in private, Catholic or other Christian schools. They have crossed over the RED LINE.

The "mothers" will not be attending the school, however.
If the little girl qualifies for admission otherwise, and of course it is possible that she does not--but if she does, I have to wonder what SHE has done to be denied your church's educational opportunities.
I'm NOT saying the state should force them to admit her. I just think it's a terrible thing for any church to condemn a child for having bad parents, when they could give her a chance to overcome that.
Smacks of the concept of the unwanted bastard throw-away child.

I'm proud of this school and their pastor for putting the safety and moral formation of their students before the hypocritical demands of political correctness. May God protect them in this coming battle. Amen.

I just think it's a terrible thing for any church to condemn a child for having bad parents, when they could give her a chance to overcome that. It is the "parents" of this child who are causing harm to her by openly living in a continuous state of mortal sin, thereby contradicting the Faith and morals of the Church - and teaching the child as she grows to do the same. Under these circumstances, the school would have little hope in helping the child "overcome that".
Education of any child is first and foremost the responsibility of parents who head the family. Any school, public or private, should be seen as ancillary to the family. A Catholic education is supposed to be just that. It is meant to teach not only reading, writing, math, etc., but to help instill the Faith and morals and example of virtuous living according to the decrees of God. In a word: Holiness. The eternal salvation of souls is paramount.
The disciplinary stand that the Church takes with parents of children as in this case, is meant to call them back to the fullness of Truth through conversion and repentance. The choice is theirs. The Church can't force them to accept it. For the sake of their souls, and that of their child, the Church can only hope that they turn from pride to penance.

To get in a Catholic school, you have to be a member of the parish and be in good standing with your contributions.Incorrect. Quite a few Protestants and Jews send their children to Catholic Schools and there are many Catholic Schools that are not affiliated with a parish or diocese. As long as your tuition check doesn't bounce and you agree to abide by the rules they'll allow your children to attend.

Smacks of the concept of the unwanted bastard throw-away child. So we must destroy the innocence and faith of hundreds of other heterosuxal and decent Catholic parents' children in that school in order to accomodate the cynical whim of a lesbian agenda driven couple, who are using "their" daughter to drive their agenda against their only viable enemy in America, the Catholic Church?
Bullshit.

Name of mothers:
Lee Inkmann and Trish Wilson (not sure about Trish). KC said this was a planned activist attack against the Church, and I believe this is true. Trish Wilson has a website called The Women's Network, and Lee Inkmann gives seminars and used to own a dealership.
MORE RESEARCH IS NEEDED ON THEM FREEPERS!

poor child....these parents want to insist that she enter a school where she is clearly not wanted, and where the "culture" is the anti thesis of the life that the lesbian couple live. Clearly this is the reason that gay couples should not have children. This child is being used as a pawn for agenda of the parents. I don't doubt that she will have problems due to the SELFISH nature of her so called parents.

The Freedom From Religion crowd would like just that. And what about those churches that are visible from the public streets? Wall them up or shut down those "discriminatory" private clubs; after all few churches preach all faiths.
If you want to practice religion, you should be forced to do so in the privacy of you bedroom where you are pemitted to commit all sorts of disgusting acts.
And you better not be bringing up your kids to believe in one religion. I've seen an article on FR that said that was child abuse and indoctrination.
The churches will continue to be assaulted. Not in the name of religous freedom, but in the name of atheist freedom: freedom from religion. Religious intolerance is growing in this country.

The Church has also managed to maintain its exemption from EEO crap, firing notorious scandalizers as necessary (unless, of course, they are Bishops.)
See: Rockford parish fires queer organist after he announces a planned "adoption" with partner.

Naaah.
Admitting the kid puts the school and the kid in a worse position than without.
If she enters school, the school has to make a decision: do we teach sexual morality or not? If we do, this poor kid will be emotionally ripped up. If we don't, we've abandoned our duty.
So in the end, the weight of the balance goes to keeping her out, although I am sympathetic with your thought.

Yeah--wasn't Oregon the 'home base' of one of the early SCOTUS decisions on Catholic schools?

Excellent point and final statement Polycarp.
I am sorry to say that I believe this is a set-up, a foot-in-the-door issue or a "launching pad", pursued by immoral activists in which Anti-Catholic rhetoric will certainly follow and Catholicism will be attacked.
The question that I have: how are we to be proactive and fight it?
To: ChemistCat
I just think it's a terrible thing for any church to condemn a child for having bad parents, when they could give her a chance to overcome that. I, too, feel sorry for the kid--but your analysis has glossed over a few distinctions, the most important of which is that the school is NOT condemning, nor punishing, the child for the 'sins of her parents.' Rather, they simply denied admittance.
The child will have a fine education at the local public school. She has not been denied an education, nor has she gained a red-letter LESBIAN CHILD tattoo on her forehead.
See my post above for the other practical problem her admittance would bring.
